It's sad that there are people within the St. John's basketball program who are saying that it's not for "personal reasons". Why cover up what the truth is? If he's being disciplined say that and move on. It worked for Harrison and it's paying dividends now. The kid is obviously a troubled guy and needs proper direction so state that. Using his family situation as an excuse is wrong.
depends on how you view things.  since the beginning it's been pretty clear Jordan was an issue.  it is also very clear that he comes from a troubled background. it is also clear that the hopes and dreams of his entire family fall on Jordan's shoulders.  for a young troubled kid, that is a lot of baggage.
Lavin knows all this.  Lavin either doesn't want to take the blame for destroying dreams or genuinely feels bad and wants to spin this in a manner that doesn't completely ruin the kid's future (allowing an opportunity for an immediate transfer). some on this board have even said that Jordan should thank Lavin for covering all his issues.  Lavin has left the door open (at least in public) for Sheed to make his return.  If he doesn't return, in the eyes of the public it'll be because of family issues.
that said, my heart thinks he comes back.  but my gut and head say Lavin and the Seniors have had enough.

For those of you who are saying we are better off w/o him, you are going to find out in a couple of hours how wrong you are. We are not a tourney team any longer. Thanks to good start, if we can go 500 in BE we may be able to sneak in, but that is about the best we can hope for. BTW from what I am hearing no shot he comes back either.
Most sensible people acknowledge losing Jordan further weakens an already thin roster. His talent could have been a difference maker. Unfortunately he just can't get himself together apparently.

Too bad. He could have been a great player. This could land him in some third world country playing for peanuts.

For us to do anything he was eventually going to have to be our 2nd best player. Weakens? This is basically a death blow!

I guess I was trying to say that with "difference maker" reference. Obviously he was the only player who could complement Dee's scoring in a meaningful way. I am very upset to lose him, but will submit my post to you next time to ensure you approve the message. Geez

What are you an old lady? Or just Boo with another sign on? Don't be so sensitive!
Yes I disagreed with "weakens" as IMO that is the equivalent of the Knight in Monty Python's Holy Grail saying losing both his arms and legs was only a flesh wound.

Oh man. I just heard some crazy things. Why didnt Villanova recruit Jordan?
Funny I was just thinking that we were going head to head with Temple for a top twenty kid that no other Big program was really involved with was a sign. To bad for both of us.
Terps were after RJ too

Yep. I too believe if this cannot work, he is still a top choice. He straightened JL's ass out real quick.

Did anyone watch the first 6 episodes of Survivor's Remorse on Starz?  It applies here, because at some point Rysheed needs to compartmentalize these tragedies or it will ruin him. He cannot feel guilty about getting this opportunity right and fall back with every death.  It almost is becoming an excuse instead of dealing with the most important things - his immediate family and his basketball family.   The staff has supported him throughout all of this, but if he crosses disciplinary lines, so be it. Thus far, it hasn't been permanent. We will see.

Am I the only one who is going to avoid ripping into a player who is going home because he lost his grandmother?  Some of you come across as complete "paper bags" (not the word I wanted to use, but it's all the site would let me write)...

Has his play on the court been poor?  Yes.  Has he created issues off the court?  From what people have said, yes.  However, if the kid is taking a leave because he lost yet ANOTHER family member [grandmother, aunt, uncle (those are just the ones I remember since he started school)], y'all need to look in the mirror and prioritize what's really important in life.  Basketball is a game.  Rysheed will never see his aunt, uncle, or grandmother again, and you're all worried about a basketball game?  You should be ashamed.

If it comes out that the grandmother thing was just an excuse and he just didn't want to be a part of the team, then so be it.  Until that happens, I'm going to continue to support the kid in his time of need.

I agree. What would happen to this country if every time someone's grandma died, they acted like a 6 year old girl? But that's not the real issue here. Lavin isn't suspending him for grieving.

You might be the only one who believes that's the reason. If he returns for Nova, or for the game after, okay, we are jerks, and we deserve to called so. But if this is a cover up (And it really seems like it is) for something else, then yea, his career is going the way of the Nurideen. And that loser is finished.
If you are blessed to be given such great talent, but emotionally, you're still a little kid, you had better be Dwight Howard good, or no one is gonna put up w your shit. And Jordan, ain't that good right now.

I'm yet to find a report that says this is a suspension.  Every report I've seen (other than hearsay on this site) has stated that he is leaving for personal reasons.

Re: your follow up point that you better be Dwight Howard good to create so many issues...I agree with that.  My only question is whether or not this is a created issue, or an 18 year old grieving another death in the family.  I supported the D'lo disciplinary suspension, and would support a Jordan disciplinary suspension if it came to that.  But as I said, I won't kill an 18 year old for being upset about losing a loved one and needing to take time off because of it.

Suspension, quitting, call it alien abduction if it makes you feel better. Kid is gone. Time to move on. Not going to be easy. 2 months till spring training
