Return of the King

In fairness, I present some facts for consideration: RJ lost his best friend in the summer Lost his Aunt and Uncle Lost his Grandmother last Friday Mom's been in and out of hospital, leaving him with responsibility for his siblings from time to time Family lives in Philadelphia RJ goes to college in NY RJ views himself as the family's hope for future financial stability if/when he makes it to the NBA A young man facing all of these issues, with the pressure and stress he has on him, may have some maturity issues to overcome. He deserves a break from the criticism of this board or any other. We are better than that. Think about it!

I tried this tactic already with this bunch.  It's amazing how losing a couple of games can bring out the worst in some people.  Completely agree with what you said.

How's he going to be any good after missing all that practice and time with the team?

Ugh, the problem with Jordan is that he actually thinks he's the king. I hope Lavin explained to him that he's not the king and that he's been playing so bad this year the only pro team that would be interested in him probably plays their home games in Somalia or something. If Lavin wasn't tough on the kid and basically begged him to come back because the team needed him, I don't see how that would be good for the player, team or program in the long run.

Honest question: which of the following would you prefer? I think it would be interesting to see where people stand on this.
A) We make the tournament as an 8/9 seed and get bounced in the first round. Lavin keeps his job for at least 1-2 more seasons.
B) We go .500 in the BE and make the NIT again. Lavin gets fired at the end of the season.

I choose B. Lavin allowing Jordan to come back may get us into the tournament but it probably won't get us far. Jordan doing whatever he wants sends a bad message to the underclassmen that will be here the next few years. A whole team of Jordans (albeit not to that degree) can kill a program. This season and the tenure of our seniors will be considered a failure in my mind if they don't make the sweet 16 or at least win 1 NCAA game. Lavin being here next year will be the worst thing for this program and I can't see this administration getting rid of him if he makes the tournament this year even if they get bounced in the 1st round.

Lavin being here next year isn't the worst thing for this program. Brian Mahoney, Mike Jarvis and Norm Roberts would be the worst thing for this program. Lavin hasn't the coach we hoped for, but in many ways, a lot of what's happened shouldn't come as a surprise.

Lavin gets a B- from me overall. Let's see how the season plays out. For better or worse, Jordan is back. So let's enjoy the season and hope that some momentum builds again tomorrow and Lavin can encourage recruits to commit during the season. One thing is for certain, you can't predict the drama here anymore. Watch him beat Nova. It's just his style

Compared to everyone else we've had since 92, he's above average. Not good, but above. Slightly. You're solutting atoms. No one is giving him the key to the city.

this team has reached the point where they are a resilient bunch.  Although they lost to Butler, they hung in against a good team and were competitive.  If...and it is a big if....Jordan shows up for games and practices from here forward and has no further problems....this is a very dangerous team that can do damage in the league and in March.  Team D and speed are exceptional and  consistent....offense always comes and goes but you win consistently with D.  IM GUARDEDLY OPTIMISTIC going forward.  Tonite will be a good indicator with the caveat that Jordan has not really practiced.  CO must not get in foul trouble, it will be the kiss of death against Nova's front line
