Timeouts after made baskets?

Unlike most on this site, I like Coach Lavin and his staff and wish they had their contact. extensions in place.  One think i am perplexed about his propensity for timeouts after made baskets.

Does anyone understand why?  To set up the defense?  Seems to me they are often momentum killers and spare our opponents  from using up their own timeouts.  Is it to give our undermanned team a breather?

Anyone have any theories?  I'd love to hear the staffs reasoning.

By the way, I've seen Coach K. call them too, but far less frequently.

Very few coaches call timeouts after own made baskets with 10 minutes left in the game. There's a reason for that

It's Montessori style.

Tons of coaches do it, Coach K literally did it in the game against us. I don't understand it. I think Lavin just doesn't draw up anything worth calling the timeout. But hey they've been winning so whatever works.

Coach Mack did it as well this past game.  I'm not against it.  A couple of times after a made basket this season we were about to get beat back down the court, so the TO prevented easy points for the other teams.  I don't really have a problem with the timeouts after mini-runs, so long as there are timeouts still available to quell the opponents' runs as well.

I don't like them being called myself but it would be interesting to go back and see how many defensive stops they got after calling the TO.

Yeah we call a Timeout after we scored, mayb e that's because they scored on 3 or 4 consecutive possessions.
I remember saying "we need stops" then after we scored, Lavin called time. I said good Timeout.

Why call Time for defense when we have the ball? That wouldn't make sense

There was a timeout on the floor, Xavier scored a basekt, then we scored a basket and timeout. That TO wasn't to give them a break after 2 possessions

So you're mad he called a timeout after a 2-0 run.  Maybe they were really gassed at the previous timeout...i don't know.  I'm not in the huddle.  Or did he want to sub someone in/out.

Quirky as in maybe Lavin is calling trying to make dinner reservations? 

Is it possible for someone to ask the coaches so we can understand their thinking?

It's not just timeouts after made baskets.  It's timeouts in the middle of runs.  Against SH with about 10 minutes left, Phil had just hit a big three to give us the lead, than Chris scored with a nice move under the basket.  Crowds getting into it and we're on a mini-run.  Timeout Hollywood.  Mrs. A and all the fans in our section could not believe it.

We rotate 7 guys. Pointer played all 40 minutes, and was on the stationary bike during halftime pounding gatorade. Jordan and PGIV played 38 and 36 minutes respectively.  2 days before, those three played 35+ minutes each.  While I do find it odd, especially the one sequence towards the end last night where Steve called two on back to back possessions, I'd rather give the kids a rest than leaving those timeouts in our back pockets.
They better rest up for Saturday.

It didn't hurt us yesterday, but it has in the past. Did it after a 6-0 run by us against SH. It really makes no sense and this is a fan forum, so it is fair game to complain about it since it usaually makes no sense.

For the record if we make tourney, I am on the give him an extension train even if we lose by 100 points in 1st round of NCAA. I AM THAT EASY.

I will still grumble when he does odd things or tries to reinvent the wheel. That is what this place is here for.

Fwiw, in the hall game two previous 6-0 runs by us were followed by runs by seton hall. When we had our third run I dindt mind the TO. For the most part tho I thnk lavin does it way way too much.

He does it way to much. I think it  is stupid. But he won.
