Obekpa suspended

Lavin recruited him.  Lavin has had trouble recruiting players that don't have attitude issues and players that don't constantly find themselves suspended.  That's on him.  He's a bad head coach, all around.

Oh, definitely not all the blame.  Stevie deserves his share.

Lavin does share some blame, but on this one, it's mostly Obekpa.  Show some responsibility.  No one is gonna be there to hold his hand and watch what he's doing at every moment  I'm not saying that's what Obekpa is expecting, but to some posters who feel everything falls on Lavin.

He's a junior, he should be grown up by now to know what to do and what not to do. I dislike Lavin and all but at a point and time, you need to realize what to do and what not to do if you're CO. He's thrown himself out of games with silly, selfish play and after quitting on the team last year in the BET, he pulls this when times have been dire with 2 blowout losses.

He was going to be this team's senior if things didn't happen the way they did today(Unless he's taken back in)....imagine that thought process and having Obekpa try and lead a young team heading into next season.

Well, the big kahuna did recruit a player who has consistently shown he places himself above the team.
And chose not to let him go or recruit over him for the past two seasons, even though that may have been appropriate.
SL is also tasked with chaperoning his players during the season. 

So, yes.  "Some" of the blame lays with Chris O.   


Now, I wouldn't punish anyone for smoking weed.  But that's a different story entirely.   They knew they had high expectations (no pun intended) this season.   At some point somebody needed to say "Ok fellas, lets dot all of our I's and cross all of our T's this season.  No weed, no drinking, no fights, lets go to class for the next 4 months so we can go dancing in the spring.."

All athletes get tested before any NCAA championship.   During the season its just random, 2 or 3 guys here and there.
But before the tournament they would all be tested.   

So, like I said, Lavin wouldn't do this unless he had to.   Ncaa wouldve found out and declared him inelidgible anyway.
Maybe that is what happened?  Who knows. 

Lavin has his built in excuse for when we get killed. I'm more angry with him than I am with Obekpa. Find a way to cover this up, or at least cover it up until April. If all he did is smoke a joint, the guilty party is Lavin. That isn't worthy of a suspension. He's in f*cking college! What college kid doesn't smoke weed? Give him a one hour detention if you have to, but a 2 week suspension is f*cking crazy.

What a f*cking disease St.John's is.

I really thought this was a joke. Was the program built on an Indian burial ground or something? Probably our most indispensable player considering the crap that backs him up.

I hear you on that, and I already shared my thoughts on CO.  Would rather he didn't get drafted at this point, he's going to make St. John's look horrible, and already has.

Agreed CO deserves the blame.  But this is yet another indictment on Lavin's program.  Stuff like this is constantly happening.  That is on him and the staff.  And because they took 2014 off from a recruiting standpoint, we have no suitable big men replacements.  That is the larger issue.  The timing, etc, is going to leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth - which will be there unless somehow we draw a team with no size and win a game in the first round because our guards and Dom play great.  Will be interesting to see what this does to the extension talks.  If none, I can't see him coaching as a lame duck (neither party would want that).

If you do sh*t "harder" than weed, then you have a problem.   But this is why nobody gets caught on a piss test for weed, you get the bottle of stuff from vitamin world or wherever.
