Do I understand this correctly that Lavin busted Obekpa for smoking weed, and then immediately raised his hand to tattle on him? If that is the case, Lavin can go F himself.
Go be a "teacher" somewhere else. St.John's has teachers. That isn't his damn job.
All athletes get tested before any NCAA championship. During the season its just random, 2 or 3 guys here and there.
But before the tournament they would all be tested.
So, like I said, Lavin wouldn't do this unless he had to. Ncaa wouldve found out and declared him inelidgible anyway.
Maybe that is what happened? Who knows.
Lavin has his built in excuse for when we get killed. I'm more angry with him than I am with Obekpa. Find a way to cover this up, or at least cover it up until April. If all he did is smoke a joint, the guilty party is Lavin. That isn't worthy of a suspension. He's in f*cking college! What college kid doesn't smoke weed? Give him a one hour detention if you have to, but a 2 week suspension is f*cking crazy.
What a f*cking disease St.John's is.
Huh? Wasn't not reporting failed drug tests one of the reasons Syracuse was hammered a few days ago? Do you really believe what you just posted?
Yes, I do. A player fails a drug test, fine. You don't have to discipline him in this way. Lavin did this to wash away his own responsibility for the season and the program.
Lavin has no place as a teacher. He's a terrible teacher. He's also a pretty lousy coach. We'll miss some of his recruiting, but when we replace him with Steve Massiello or Bobby Hurley, we'll be reminded that recruiting 4/5 star players is less important than developing a clear system.
We see Lavin's system rear its head every few weeks. It's failed, and it's clearly time to move on. While I don't believe for a second that Chris Obekpa did anything wrong, this is the system he chose to be a part of, and for that, I feel badly for him. On Thursday, billions of people will be watching the NCAA tournament stoned out of their minds, and Obekpa, who probably smoked a joint, is suspended. Granted, he should have been well aware that it wasn't allowed, but that doesn't mean that he is guilty of doing anything wrong. He's not.
Sadly, there is no one other than the President of St.John's who can teach Lavin the lesson he so desperately needs to learn. Hopefully, he is as angry over this failed season as I am.
And for the record, we can rewatch the SU STJ from this year over and over again all summer, because it's all we're going to have for a while. For all of their cheating, by and large, all they have to deal with is a little embarrassment and a few ships taken away. They'll probably wipe the floor with us next year.
