Watched some of SDSU-New Mexico, unfortunately got through first half to realize it was last year's film. Film easily available and watchable online is difficult for me to find on this team. Nonetheless, I'm sure the themes of this team are similar. Here are my initial notes:
DEFENSE:
-Full-court pressure, man-to-man, physical in post
-on press, occasionally will double from weakside on PG when ball is being brought up floor
-Halfcourt, will go under screens, will collapse middle to protect paint
-Weakside will help on dribble penetration and picks
-help is strong recovering back to man
-Extremely active with hands, will get lots of deflections and turnovers if not careful with the ball
OFFENSE
vs. Man-to-man
-saw offense run out of:
-3-out - corner L-cuts to ball w/ screen, backside flex cut off pass if there, pass to slot leads to pick and roll
-Horns - entry pass to elbow, corner comes up to top off screen, set ends with high pick and roll
-14 High - corner L-cut for pass, pg comes off flare screen to (short) corner, quickly comes back up off re-screen, attacks basket
-14 Low - dribble handoff at wing, weakside post x-cuts to strong side elbow to get into a horns look, PG runs through and up off screen at weakside elbow, gets ball back, pick and roll
-multiple entries
-corner man L-cuts to slot to receive initial pass
-dribble hand-off
-high entry pass (most often out of Horns)
-weakside offensive players will exchange between corner and wing
*most sets end up leading to high pick and roll, hard attack to basket with multiple pass options
vs. Zone
-no zone defense seen
Quick Hitters:
-single high pick and roll to attack basket quick
-ball on wing, double screen across for PG to attack hard
Press Break:
-no press seen
