Again I agree with We are SJu.

Desco - come on bro.  That's just dumb

My shtick about Diallo and coach?    Of course it's dumb.    I'm just trying to make the point that I think this is a recruitment where we are being strung along because the kid likes NY.
But at the end of the day he's made it here all the way from Africa because he's committed to his future.   He'll move again if he thinks it's best for his career.     Simple guy as Dave has said.

actually moose, i believe you are incorrect.  According to the NCAA’S recruting calender the recruting period ends march 31st 2015. hahahaha so its exponentiallly worse that we arent making a move now.  If we do really want to can lav and we wait much longer to find a replacement were gonna hire him during a dead period and give him a couple days to fill a team.
http://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/Men%27s%20Basketball%20Recruiting%20Calendar2014.pdf

Contact period

The most wide-open time. During this time, coaches can visit with prospects and families regardless of location. In-person contact is permitted once per week. Note that a coach cannot visit a school multiple times in one week if it has more than one prospect.  Electronic and written communications are also permitted.

This is when tales of coaches praising Mama's cooking are born, during in-home visits.

Evaluation period

Considerably more restrictive than the contact period in one key way: off campus face-to-face contact is not permitted. That means no home visits. Coaches can still visit a prospect's school. Visits to schools are ostensibly for the purpose of evaluation. Prospects can visit colleges and receive written and electronic communication. Many scholarship offers go out in this period.

Quiet period

The quiet period tightens things a bit more, preventing any off-campus contact or viewing. Visits to the college's campus and written or electronic communications are still permitted.

Dead period

The dead period is the most restrictive. No in-person contact is allowed, even if a prospect makes a visit to the college campus. Written and electronic communications are still permitted.

recruiting period ends march 31, april 1 is a “quiet period”, april2-9 is “dead period”.  i believe april 13th is beginning of signing period.  lol will be interesting

Diallo to Coach.  Are u staying?  Coach to Diallo?  I have no idea.

That's really helpful.

Diallo to coach:  "Are you with Kansas or Kentucky?"    Coach:  "No"
Diallo  "Are you Fred Hoiberg?"   Coach:  "No"
Diallo "uhh, sorry, I think I have a dentist appointment I forgot about.  Later".

Cluess-We would like you to come to SJU
Diallo-Who are you and why are you in my kitchen?
Cluess- am the new SJU coach, I used to coach Iona
Diallo-What is an Iona?

Massiello-We would like you to come to SJU
Diallo-Aren't you the guy who lied on his resume and lost to Hampton?

Hurley-We would like you to come to SJU
Diallo-And you are again?
Hurley-I was the former coach at Buffalo
Diallo-Buffalo has a basketball team? Do they have uniforms and everything?
Hurley-Yes, I also played for Duke 25 years ago
Diallo-That was a very long time ago. You must be really old.

Ok, fair enough.
That does change my opinion a little.
Is Chiek attracted to Lavin or St Johns?   If, say, Chris Mullin is hired tomorrow, would Diallo still be interested in us?
Or is his interest based on his relationship, or his handlers relationship, with Steve and Tony?

I think everyone's view point is a little bias because you are all super serious fans. Zach's articles every other day and the #Sjubb hashtag don't have that much reach.

If you were a casual fan or not a fan you might not even know about this going on.

Except that a Seton Hall fan has posted about it, an ASU blogger has written about it and it is also being discussed on non-SJU boards.  We may be following more closely, but others know what is going on.

The lavin retention mess is horrible...unfair to fans....program ...;students....players.....Lavin and staff .  The school needs to say and probably do something today.

Honestly, I don't think it's a mess at all.  St. John's has a coach who is coming off a 20 win season and an NCAA Tournament appearance.  He's under contract for next season and the program could offer him a contract extension.

Maybe the school is just putting out feelers to coaching candidates they like better.  If they aren't interested, then it prevents the school from making fools of themselves.

Recruits?  For most of them, this is decision time.

That sounds like a mess to me.  You are either committed to the coach you have, or you let him go.  Putting out feelers only puts the coach in an untenable situation going forward.  Unless there are negotiations going on (in which case an announcement of that should be made), I don't see how Lavin emerges from this feeling secure when he goes out to coach a game or when he reaches out to a recruit.  Paultzman's avatar says it all.

The leaks are not ok....silence would have been ok but not in the face of the leaks....what is the plan...what is process...what is the timing?

What leaks? This isn't Watergate. A blogger cited a "source" and a "second source." So that's Maven and his kid. No one cares about this. Saint John's is irrelevant except to 300 forum posters, one delusional Seton Hall fan and Zach Braziller.

Haaaa. Spot on.

Thank you and have a great day.

Try as hard as I know it is, to remain open: possibly "I have been promised an extension, but it might be a few more days."

Possible - relaxxxxx
