Agreed 10000%.  This is absurd and typical St. John's.  Everyone says when there's smoke there's fire.  Well at St. John's when there's smoke there could be smoke for a month without anyone bothering to check out if there is a fire or not.  Perhaps Lavin and the board are lighting up stogies celebrating his extension or perhaps there is a fire, but if there's a fire, the house is starting to burn down in the process and by the time the fire is discovered, we're starting from the foundation again anyway.

What are potential recruits thinking?  Season ticket holders? Donors?  Players?

It's a PR nightmare to drama queen SJU fans. It hasn't even been a week since they lost their last game. Lavin is still under contract and coaches they could be interested are for all you know still coaching.

I don't think it's a PR nightmare.   Our season ended 4 days ago.
The current message to recruits, season ticket holders etc et al  is that the school is deciding whether to keep the coach.

Apparently the administration isn't as certain as HNK that Lavin should be retained, or as certain as I am that he should be let go.     I do agree that if this drags on for a long time that would be a bad thing.
But it's hardly a nightmare right now.

The leaks are not ok....silence would have been ok but not in the face of the leaks....what is the plan...what is process...what is the timing?

My problem with this is that signing period is what? third week of april.  True that no potential coaching targets have signed anywhere but if you are going to can lavin then youre asking a new coach to come in and recruit almost an entire roster (sheed and obekpa included would have to be recruited to stay) in a couple weeks.   I want them to take the time to make the right decision but if youre gonna make the move then the next guy needs to hit the ground sprinting on recruiting ASAP

What difference does it make if they make it known that the president and board are going to make a decision today or next week?

It would show some order...some stability....some degree of adults in control...that someone's in charge and put a timetable on everything....ie.   Coach to recruit...just give me a week etc.

Just common sense.

What leaks? This isn't Watergate. A blogger cited a "source" and a "second source." So that's Maven and his kid. No one cares about this. Saint John's is irrelevant except to 300 forum posters, one delusional Seton Hall fan and Zach Braziller.

The leaks and the message being sent are the reality right now HNK.      If recruits and fans think there is some uncertainty about who will be leading the program, well that's because it's true.
Plain and simple,  a decision hasn't been made yet.

No one may be hiring mullin this week but, again, dont we have to replace just about every minute played on our team this year?  Maybe its just me but if they are going to fire lavin i hope they do it soon so the next coach can start fielding a freaking team cuz recruiting period is running short

Well the latter isn't happening, and the former depends on the decisions that will be made this week.
