No they won't. MAAC has the worst attendance.  We get nothing out of these games.

I can only pose this suggestion so many times before someone at SJU or MSG realizes the genius of it...

(TBD Corp Sponsor) Holiday Festival

12/19/2015-   Game 1:  St Johns   v.  MAAC School   (Iona, Fairfield, Manhattan, etc)
Game 2:  Syracuse v.  NEAC School   (LIU, St Francis, Wagner)

12/20/2015-
                          Consolation Game:     Loser #1 v. Loser #2
                          Championship Game:  Winner #1 v. Winner #2

You could do this every year, and rotate the local schools who get invited.
It is a win-win on about 12 different levels.
We get to continue our rivalry with Cuse but don't have to go up to bumblef&ck every other season.
We keep the local schools happy by giving them meaningful games, close-by, in front of what will be good crowds if SJU and Cuse are playing well.
MSG gets probably twice as many fannies in the seats.
The Holiday Festival becomes a championship again, and the tradition continues
etc etc

SOMEBODY MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

100% Desco!

But last time something like this happened, Iona sparked North Carolina and St John's lost to Manhattan. Undercard was SJU vs Carolina

Hey, if you guys win more power to you!  Local bragging rights on the line.
But i can guarantee the garden will get more people even for an under-card like that than they do for  SJU v. Fordham   and Stony Brook v. Rutgers.  no body goes to that.
It's not exciting for St Johns fans, it's not exciting for anybody.

Marist is a MAAC team in the NY metro area.  What's the difference between them and Iona?
Columbia is a city school with an amazing academic reputation.  I think it does SJU good to be linked any way it can with Columbia.

In 2014, the MAAC averaged just 2,051 fans per game.  That is awful.  If Iona or Manhattan want to play us so badly, they should join the A-10 and we'll play them like we play Fordham.

write to Ed Manetta--maybe he can make it happen at The Barclay.  I have felt we could do a "Battle of the Boros" triple header(NEC's LIU/SFC/Wagner, Redmen. MC. Columbia) even add a 4th div 3 game such as NYU/St. Joe's Brooklyn

I believe the problem with the Holiday Festival not being a tournament is apparently you are only allowed one in season tournament per season. I remember reading that somewhere recently.

Don't make it a tourney than. Invite SJU, SU and 2 Local schools. First day SJU and SU play the local schools . Day 2 SJU vs SU and the 2 local schools vs one another.

I still remember the couple of SJ's/Manhattan games I went to with my dad and sis - holiday tournament, right? It's been a while now - maybe late 90s?

That's what evolved from the original Franklin Classic with the Terps and GWU.  They got rid of the "championship" game, and just play the two games now.

I think Mullin will be looking to upgrade the schedule, not downgrade it. Moreover, these games will not draw. We do not sell out Jamaica when we play these games. And last time Iona played in Garden as second game in double hearder, about 800 fans stayed to watch. And that was when the Iona game was a freebie.

Agreed, it sucks to play in an empty garden against a team no one wants to see except some diehards on these boards. The idea of a 4 team deal with cuse isn't bad, except I would rather just be guaranteed to play them every year and the game against them draws well as it is, so I don't see the advantage of having to beat st. Francis in order to play cuse. if mullin wants an additional local team or two on the on-campus schedule, that's fine although I think lower level high majors are generally better for rpi bc the rpi of your opponents opponents is factored in.
