And others who have  plucked top local talent on a yearly basis without much competition

No that stuff is overrated.  In fact I think many BE coaches want to ultimately see SJU back at the top.  St. John's is important, very important for the future of the league.

Do you really think Duke wants to see UNC struggle, their rivalry with them and the fact they are both normally top 10 programs is what helps fuel each other in terms of striving for excellence.

Jimmy Boeheim, Jaime Dixon, Cal, Pitino made a killing out of new york. we should be able to stop the bleeding now for sure.

Boeheim, Cal, Pition and Coach K will still get the kids they want out of NYC.

The first good vibe I've gotten since Jordan ruined the Lovett signing.

It's not just the big fish. No way in hell Brey should have gotten a guy like McIlarney in the middle of the last decade, or Matt Ryan now, under SJU's noses. Those are vital 4-year players that are bedrocks of teams that can make NCAA runs. Mullin won't lose kids like that. Thank God

If a kid wants to go to Notre Dame he will go to Notre Dame doesn't matter who our coach is. But we will get more than our usual share of kids IMHO.

Calipari and Pitino will recruit nationally and grab the best of the best.
but I think baldis right, guys like Dixon and Huggins can't be pleased that Mullin is here.
Lavin was a very good recruiter, but he wanted the best player regardless of locale.  Mullin Slice and Matt A are aiming to own ny/nj.

Keep in mind if Lavin had been able to convince Rohrssen to leave Manhattan things might have turned out differently.  He did everything to convince him. Or gotten Book Richardson to come back east things could have been different.

In the end SJU got a NYC legend and that and a lot of jing got Slice to come home.

Probably so. It would have been nice to have been on Matt from the beginning, but he was chossing between UNC and ND after all.  Brey promised him big minutes and Roy wouldn't

I don't think that's completely accurate.   Lavin was given a big budget for assistants when he got here.   Slice just wasn't ready to make the move.
But the school was giving the bball program the resources to bring him here.

Also Slice has better feelings towards Mullin then he did towards Lavin.
