Another strong outing by @Amir_Garrett today: 6IP, 2r, 3BB, 7K. Last 10 starts: 2.44 ERA, 51.2IP, 19BB, 50K, 1.01 WHIP. #dealing

He just turned 22, but having not played College baseball, he isn't too out of his league in A.

He should really focus on baseball. His future is bright.

Hopefully Amir's control develops, and he can call upon two other pitches while he maintains his 95+ fastball.  That is the main recipe to the top - and staying healthy.  Baseball pitcher can be the best gig, but it's also a risky one.

I love Amir, he was nothing but great to me when we had class together. We even have the same birthday. I hope he commits fully to baseball after the next bball season. He should have his degree by then and he can become a baseball superstar.

That's great to hear.  It seemed that Amir has the court/field demeanor that he'll need as a pitcher.  He may not have been the most talented on the floor, but he always played hard.  He'll need that work ethic to push further and further as a pitcher.

A local (for me in No. Va) kid who pitched against my son's travel team worked his tail off to get his velocity up for two years.  He also grew from about 5'8" in 8th grade to 6'5" by senior year.  His velocity went from 82-85 to 86-89 for his junior year (his dad told me he was working out 4-5 times a week during school year), then to 93-96 for senior year.  His hard work paid off to get drafted by Toronto in the 3rd round.  His to be head coach ot Coll. of Charleston to him to do what he thought was best, so he took the 660k slot signing.  Nick Wells is his name.  Amir is almost like a college senior going into this season, so I would think they'll move him up fast if he keeps showing them something.

Amir is currently at A+ Daytona, but the real test will be his promotion to AA performing against many top prospects.  Then we'll see.  He is 23 now, so I hope he makes good in AA ball. That is an important move up.

All Star game is 6/20 in St Lucie. Hopefully he will be around for that so I can see him pitch. If a kid is doing the job in Class A  he is usually in A A before the All Star game.

I hope you get to see Amir.  I'm a fellow lefty, and at the plate, there's nothing like a 6'5"+ lefty bringing heat at you.  He might go AA after the game, but have you noticed prospects doing well at A or A+ going before the all-star game? I did not know that.

The kid who pitched against my son's team, Nick Wells, had a rough start in GCL (Blue Jays 3rd rounder) last year, but it's early. Working through control issues.

Bumped up to #4 prospect in Reds organization.  I think he was around #17 last year.

Huge day for SJUBB alum!

Are you an alum of a school if you don't graduate from there?

Not trying to be a contrarian moose, but I do think Amir is a SJUBB alum.  He is NOT a SJU alum.

Alum may not be a term of art in this case, but I do think with sports teams and employers alum is used in the sense that he was once with them.

On my Celtics board we often refer to former players as "old friend [blank]" which is probably a better way to phrase it.
