Whats our record without Hatten in his first year?

Probably similar to what we have now. The difference between the two groups of players is that Hatten's teammates couldn't shoot straight, but they played defense. This group doesn't play defense, but they have a few decent shooters. This is a soft team. They don't get after it. They by and large don't play hard enough to win.

This team has only lost one game to a team that they could/should have beat. They are playing hard. They get after it. Have you forgotten the Rutgers game already?

I went to the St.Francis game, and to the Niagara game. They only won those games because those teams were cold down the stretch from outside. Mussini and Johnson don't guard shooters. When I say get after it, I mean play defense like you mean. This team doesn't, with the exception of maybe 2 or 3 players, some of the time, they just stand around on defense. Why, I have no idea.

What shooters did St. Francis or Niagara have to guard?

Not so sure now they should have beat Fordham. They are shooting 50% after 8 games as a team. Maybe they are better than everyone thought.

If you're trying to say that St.Francis and Niagara don't have very good shooters, I agree, but should that be an excuse for allowing them to take wide open shots? It's a bad habit that needs to be broken. Mussini and Johnson raise their hand and wave casually in the direction of the shooter instead of actually playing defense.

Watch for it tomorrow. Maybe the result will be enough to encourage Mussini to stop doing it. Johnson, I really don't care. He's not interested in hustling. If it were possible to inspire him to hustle, he'd be doing it by now.

Personally I didn't notice what you saw but my point is your slag off guys who can't shoot. St. Francis shot 33% and Niagara shot 25% so I think their defense was fine.

IF  Lovett truly has potential for clearance based on his first semester academic performance, I'm assuming his transcript gets submitted ASAP by SJU, but I noticed that final exams run thru this week

http://www.stjohns.edu/academics/office-registrar/academic-calendar

Even if his last final is earlier in week, who knows what kind of time it would take NCAA to review/process ?  Seems like Fri. 12/18 Incarnate Word and Sun. 12/20 NJIT could be longshots....even 12/22 (S. Carolina).

12/31 (Creighton) seems more realistic (going to that game  :) ) but I hope that there is some fast tracking going on behind the scenes.

Any word on him? If the semester is over, the grades should be in.

Like NC said its finals week (which is probably why they didn't schedule any games until Friday).

Saw this tweet from Dave, I assume,  today via @Johnny_Jungle

If the NCAA was to clear LoVett for competition the best case scenario would be sometime between 1st and 3rd conference game. #sjubb

Fwiw, Zach B of Post noted he hears BE opener possible.

Why not sooner.  Amir prepped first half of the season and played first game of the 2nd semester.

Not 100%. I think because Amir was already decided. LoVett still pending.

This whole thing is just bizarre. Could it be any more arbitrary?

It is difficult to project any return date until he is deemed eligible. SJU can't push the envelope on that from my view.

I've followed the BE for a long time. I've never heard of a player's first semester having anything to do with his second semester eligibility. It doesn't make any sense. Either he's eligible to play like everyone else is, or he isn't.

In any event it appears we'll know soon if the NCAA will reconsider his current Partial Qualifier status, as a result of whatever data (assume his first semester grades) SJU submits. All we can do is wait.

True that.

I actually see this very similar to Amir Garett's situation. He wasn't eligible first semester, he busted his butt in prep and became immediately eligible first game 2nd semester.

If that's the case here, then the NCAA would just be making LoVett wait because they feel like it.

Rather than drive ourselves crazy, let's see what happens probably Thursday. (What I hear)

I think the NCAA is willing to compromise and yes it is unusual.

They have already deemed him to be a partial qualifier but they acknowledge serious opposition to their ruling so I think they are essentially compromising with Lovett and SJU.

What I'd guess is that both sides have probably made mistakes here.
