Why assume that St. John's is at fault here? All reports were  the staff performed due diligence on LoVett's case and that they were fairly confident he would be cleared initially. Insiders have said that LoVett did what he had to do and that the NCAA thought he had made up too much work in his last year and applied standards to his case that will go into effect next year. Maybe they are reconsidering his status because he was not treated fairly by them. Your constant negativity can be tiring. Didn't you have 'Cuse trampling us by 50?

Why assume that St.John's is at fault? I haven't, and if you read more carefully, you'd see that. What I said is that I would guess that both sides are at fault. We'll see. But, since you mentioned it, one might assume that St.John's is at fault because of Amir Garrett, Norvel Pelle, Jakarr Sampson, Orlando Sanchez, Marco Bourgault, Adonis Delarosa, Keith Thomas and now, Marcus LoVett. Are we all just supposed to believe that NCAA truly has it in for us?

NCAA has a hard on for smaller private schools not named Duke - especially the two I root for (St. John's and The U).

NCAA has screwed over Saint John's, Miami, and USC big time.

It's what they do. They try to make examples of smaller schools while allowing their cash cows to run amuck: OSU, every SEC school, etc.

When has Duke done something wrong that they should have been hammered on but weren't?  Have never heard of Duke, ND, Georgetown, Stanford - plenty of private schools - getting hammered by NCAA.  Why single out Duke here?

Unlike Lavin, who put himself in a position to take excessive risks, I think the risks were extremely minimal re Lovett and Yakwe. Worse case scenario they would be partial qualifiers, we wouldn't have to re recruit them, like we did w Sampson, and they would be here next year. Mullin came in so late in the game, he recruited about as good as you could expect considering who was left on the board. Hoping we get Lovett for BE play and a healthy Ellison.

I don't want to get into a big Duke thing here - I even spelled the name right in the interest of comity - but arguably they should have had their 1999 FF appearance vacated after Corey Maggette admitted he took money from Myron Piggie. Jarvis lost nearly 100 wins for essentially the same offense, albeit CM's payments were while he was in HS. Certainly you would be willing to admit that Coach K does not face the same sort of scrutiny that alleged arch criminals like John C or Jerry Tarkanian did.

Big difference between player getting paid in HS by agent unaffiliated with his college and someone getting paid in college by a member of the coaching staff (putting aside the fact that if the reason Mr. Keita was paid was because he was poor and didnt have money for food, the rules were ridiculous back then and now he would have been able to have more free food after Shabazz enlightened all of us to that plight).

I agree that Coach K has not faced scrutiny for the "questionable" situations which have arisen.  That being said, has John Thompson (or his son)? Do we really think Georgetown is and always has been completely clean given Mr. Iverson and many of the players, at least back then, were driving around in ridiculously expensive cars?  Has Billy Donovan? Has Jay Wright?  Duke gets the most publicity and with that comes everyone knowing about the rumored dirty laundry, but its not like Coach K is getting special treatment as to everyone.

I just find it bizarre to single out Duke without any recent example (or past example) where it is obvious Duke is getting special treatment.  Now if you want to call out someone, how about Duke's little sister to its southwest?  North Carolina should probably be given the death penalty for their transgressions, yet they havent even received a slap on the wrist....

OSU and plenty of SEC got in plenty of trouble. USC and Miami are big time.

I still get a kick out of the whole $Cam Newton situation at Auburn. Dude was purchased for a couple hundred grand. Won a championship. NOTHING happened. NCAA basically let it be.

Jameis Winston anyone? Allegations of rape, coverups by the police, title xi issues. FSU won a championship. NCAA didn't give a damn.

You know we can go on and on with this. I feel the NCAA does have a thing for certain programs - St. John's and Miami being two of them.
It's all about

If staff was furnished accurate info on ML's eligibility chances, would any here want to throw him back?

Why would anyone throw him back if worse scenario is he suits up next year?

Any new news on Lovett's reinstatement?  Is this a real possibility or just wishful thinking on people's part?  I would love to see him eligible and playing this year.  Our young players need as much experience as they can get - especially during league play.  Team played great on Saturday but we all know this team needs a ball handler like Lovett to take some of the heat off Mussini.  We're going to be pressed "to death" during conference play.

Carmine, you could not have picked anything more "right" than that clip.  Imagine if one of our guys took out the most hated player on Georgetown in the 80s like that.  Would any of us deem that "wrong"?

Yes. Like it was "wrong" when Obekpa elbowed that guy in the back of the head last year.

Bet it would have been a different reaction if he did that to a Gtown, Cuse or Duke player...

No it wouldn't and go on defending Gerald Henderson, it's very dookie of you.

I just read a previous post that said "Zach B notes that Big East opener is possible".  The Big East opener is on new year's eve, which is two weeks from tomorrow.  This is not surprising since finals run through this Saturday.

Intentional cheap shot.  Billy Packer sounded like an idiot for defending Gerald Henderson so vigorously.

Sounds like we have two interesting threads going on here, but what else is new.  It is fun to read both.

Marcus will be ready to play 30 seconds after he is declared eligible, if that long.  It should really put some more energy into the team. We will become a different team.
