Your Starting 5
« on: November 02, 2015, 11:31:09 AM »
Thought Saturday had a cool vibe to it. No frills, just ball. The crowd was sparse but attentive. Based upon my assessments, here's my starting 5 assuming all qualify, which I know is anything but set in stone:

PG- LoVett
SG- Ron
SF- Durand
PF- Yakwe
C- Sima

First off the bench would be Ellison and Moose. CJ has a shot at cracking the rotation. The starting SG spot was debated on my end, Felix and Ellison should compete for minutes w Ron. I didn't see enough of Darien's inside game to warrant him starting over Yakwe, we need rebounds and defense in the BE, and Kass fits the role. Small sample size based off one scrimmage, but I wouldn't mind seeing many rotations mixed in over the next 11 days before Wagner.

Don't know enough about Ron. I would love to see Yakwe, but doubt he will be eligible. Lets hope Lovett is cleared.

What did you see out of Yakwe to have him start on Saturday?

Moose, I see Yakwe being a defensive specialist, which gives him the nod based upon need. The more experience he gets the better. Love how in shape he is, his frame should do well during the BE gauntlet. Initially Darien looks like a stretch 4, but again it was a small sample size.  We need the rebounding, Darien/Ron should be able to mix it up and help down low, you can't leave Sima out on an island w no collegiate experience. I believe that Darien has plenty of talent, but just think that for defensive and rebounding purposes, I'd go w Kass at the 4.

I cant begin to guess but I'd love to see small ball lineups out there.  Johnson looks big enough to hold his own a little bit down low if need be, and good luck to the true PF who has to guard him.

Just one scrimmage but Yakwe struck me as someone I would like to definitely sit out a year and get better.  If that was a Rucker park track meet I think he would have been great but in a structure I wonder a bit right now.  I went in thinking Yakwe > Owens and meanwhile Owens really surprised me

I could go with this starting 5 to open the season. However based on the reports on here about Ellison, I'd have Ron M on a short leash to see how he performs over the first few games. If he's as slow footed as some have said, I'd move Ellison into the starting 5. Mussini is a nice instant offense guy off the bench as the 6th man.

Tariq definitely impressed, high motor, passionate, load of potential. You can tell that he and Zendon are already working hard together, he was taking instruction from him all game. We have a lot to look forward to here.

PG - LoVett
SG - Johnson
SF - Ellison
PF - Williams
C - Sims

I have Williams at the 4, but that's only because there's really no one else. It's going to be a very long year. Yakwe may or may not be eligible. His jumper looked like it had forward rotation on it. He was the only player who didn't pass the ball in the half court. Jones wasn't terrible, but I'm not buying his improvement until he shows up ready for an actual game. Amar was a mess offensively, but maybe he could rebound a little, IDK.

I don't think they can play exhibition games until cleared. If I'm not mistaken ADR played an exhibition game and I think lost a year of eligibility.

I hope coach has a good understanding of who his best 5 are. We are in no position mess around like Lavin did. I am hoping for a good start Wednesday night. After we are up lets sub more. Lovett and Durand play 30 plus.
I think our guards are going to be ok. Didn't see much of sima and Williams . They weren't impressive.

He has a little Trevor Ariza in him. He was without a doubt the best big man.

You wouldn't have had Mussini and likely no Sima.

Damn the team needs a PF bad.  Hopefully Williams gets healthy and becomes the player I originally expected him to be.  Just too slow right now.
