I don't see Marcus lovett there. Anybody see him or care to speculate why he would not be there?

I was at the game (visitong from NC) and didn't see Lovett or Williams at all.  Even pre-game.  Owens was there.  Funny thing was they had Q&A for players on the center court screen and asked players their New years resolution - Owens said to gain 30 lbs !!!!

Ellison was much improved today.  Yakwe solid but his FT form is still painful to watch.  Mussini was non-existent and Sima got pushed around by Goesselle.  Johnson was hot early then gets into ball hog mode and takes every shot he can.

Anthony Mason JR was at the game today, with another guy who was about 6'8, and pretty broad. Anyone know who that was?

Aaron Spears!

Also Quincy Roberts was the other guy with them. Pretty sure Ryan Williams was there as well

Lovett wasn't there. As pointed out Williams wasn't either. I know everyone will jump to conclusions. WASJU is bouncing off the walls screaming I told you so lol

Guessing they both had extra time at home. Personally I'm not a fan of that since we had so many days off but it is what it is.

Lovett was featured in the spots on the big screen ;)

Brights spots: Yalwe and Ellison. Yakwe is aggressive and he contributed today. Made some nice progress. Needs to learn how to defend guys like #41. Yakwe didn't once deny him the ball. That needs to be taught by someone.

Ellison went to the basket, and looked much better doing it. He was our best player today.

The Ugly: No improvement in overall effort. As a group, these guys just don't play hard. Mullin is here to bring gritty NYC basketball back to St.John's. Johnson and M'vouika were brought here to set that tone. They aren't. Maybe we'll see more of Yakwe and Ellison. Mullin is going to have to keep finding ways to make them better. I think a lot of us would just like to see the 5 guys that work the hardest. Mussini dribbling the ball behind his back when it's not needed is the kind of thing the staff has to call attention to. It seems like they aren't calling attention to anything. We play with a low IQ.

The Stupid: Sima? What are you doing? That was a very previous staff recruit thing to do. Players recruited by this current staff don't pick up technicals fouls by hanging on the run after a dunk.
Disagree on the "overall effort" comment. I thought they played hard but shot themselves in the foot by shooting poorly and making a few critical boneheaded plays. Creighton is an experienced, well coached team who was terrible just last season. I expect us to be a more talented version of that in two years.

Loved McDermott's game plan. Smother Mussini double in the post and give Sima a ton of space. He looked like a deer in headlights with that space. I'd have him shoot 500 jumpers one step in from the top of 3 pt line.

Yeah I heavily disagree with the effort comment. I thought effort was what kept us in the game, turnovers and bad shooting is what lost it. Despite those, I still think the bb iq on this team is pretty high, esp. Among Ellison, mussini and sima. Look at that weave to the other side of the basket sima made today. Would t have seen that the past bunch of years. Smart play. Or mussini allowing himself to be run over. Same thing. The dumb plays came from balamou (who still had a decent game) and others.

We put up a good fight but lost to a superior team. No shame there

As far as sima on the rim, I think he thought there was someone right below him. Either way, guarantee that never happens again.

Creighton is well coached, prepared & plays smart. Didn't enjoy the loss, but their play was fun to watch.

We were down eight with about nine minutes left.  Balamou calling to come out because he is tired.  We're acting like the game is lost and then balamou himself comes down and shoots early.  How do you not call TO there, you have three left.  This is where we lost the game.  Right now we're down 10 with six to go.  It would have been a close game.  You call time out there. help your team.  Give them a rest.

I agree really bad. Game was lost at technical.

True dat. The Sima slam cuts the Creighton lead to 3.  Then the bonehead T (his third pf) and we never got it that close again.

Should it have been a tech? He had the momentum of a freight train. It was more the safe move to hang and pull up. No?

No.  Too much "chin-up on the rim" - SL.  That's a tech in any gym in the country.

Hollywood always said that, right?

I thought the initial hang on the rim was Ok, but when he continued and pulled himself up even higher than flailed with a dramatic dismount that he tied the refs hands.  I thought it was a T and you know which side I'm on.  Just seemed like the most stupid play.

It was the far basket from where I was sitting, however.

Maybe I can find a replay somewhere.

Hollywood might have said that but it's white noise what comes out of his mouth to me.

He did pull up. IMO and my seats are aligned with that baseline it was either innocently do that and pull up or fall and break his back. He was a freight train coming in. Tough to just stop. Not like he did the pull and landed and jawed at a player. The fact the tech doesn't even count toward his foul count which I didn't know and baffled me furthers my opinion that why bother calling the foul. Refs should focus more on getting game calls right which continue to embarrass themselves each year more and more (had no impact on game just a bunch of bonehead calls and missed calls)

We kept it a low scoring game in the first half and for the first 10 minutes of the second half, but then we went away from that and started to shoot quickly.  Especially Balamou who had just given Mullin the tired sign.  Why would he take that shot?  That was the time to call TO. Nine minutes to go.  Sima got the tech when we were down three and the wind started to go out of our sails.  You've got to do something to help your team.  They had three TO"s left.  That's where we lost it.  It could have been a close game.  That's what I was hoping for; keep it close and maybe steal it in the end.  That's how we will need to win our games this year. We finished the game with two TO's.  The game got away there.  Call time out.

Feliz asked out? Wtf
He just gave the bench the tired sign.  He hasn't been playing so he is not really in game shape anymore.  It'll take a week or so.  He got a rest at the next media TO, and was back in the game, but by then it was too late.
