Saw the game again on DVR this morning.  Agree with Foad: game turned on scoreless stretch caused by consecutive turnovers and 2 out of context offensive fouls called on benign picks.  We have too little margin for error to get through such things.  On a positive note, Yakwe was absolutely brilliant.  Turned athletic blocks into fast breaks and singlehandedly kept us in the game. Know he's young and will be inconsistent, but he has to be playing more if he's going to get better, even when Sima returns.  If that means less CJ and AliB,  then so be it; the kid's got to be 30+ every game to get him ready for next year.  Overall, this team is improving: playing better D and more cohesive offense.  Know it's difficult for them to continue to play so hard and keep losing, but credit to the coaching staff for keeping them focused, motivated, and ready to play every day.

This might sound crazy, and I never thought I would say this, but amar should really be getting time too. His defense is never going to be good, but his offensive game is really filling out. He's shown a great ability in the mid range and even gets to the hoop well at times. He could be a useful piece when we need an offensive spark at the 4. Those two at the four. With sims at the 5 (and Owens) sounds pretty good to me. Definitely excited for the next couple of years.

I think Freudenberg would essentially phase Amar out of any future plans should he come here
Would think so, but one will be a Fr. And the other a jr., so we will see.

Yeah, I get the feeling Freudenberg is on a whole different level talent-wise than Amar.  Amar is definitely a serviceable player and has gotten a lot better.  There is definitely a place for him on this team.  His role will dip with all the young talent but he's a big kid who is reasonably skilled.

Eh. I think if we are counting on Amar to give us 15-20 minutes a game every game we are in trouble. Wouldn't mind giving him some minutes early and if he's hot and contributing give him more minutes that game. I get the feeling you have to treat Amar's PT on a game by game basis because he can be very serviceable one game and then a negative the next.

It does sound crazy. But with 8 players, we will see more of him, because there simply isn't any other option. But to do what we need him to at the 4, he needs to box and go up strong. He doesn't have that skill at all. The one time he was in a position to go up strong and at least draw a foul, he threw up an off balance hook shot that didn't come close.

He has, at times, hit shots, passed well, and recognized when to drive to the basket, but that is where he can help us. He's not a PF. He's SF who wants to work on his guard skills more than anything. If he hits a couple of threes, he's helping a lot.

Since Syracuse, Amar's three point proficiency has really fallen off. Would not expect him to replicate Cuse game, but he has struggled of late from three.

to Paultzman's point.....looking at Amar's 3 pt stats

10-38 overall - 26.3%

last 4 games : 0-11  ; 0%  (that's nasty)

5-7 in two games (3-4 w/ Syracuse and 2-3 vs. Chaminade)  ; that's 5-31 for all other = 16%.

Hard to argue with Paultman's stats.  Amar's a 3 pt. specialist who had the game of his life vs. Cuse, but he's not a reliable deep threat, and that's the best part of his game.  Love his spirit, but he and CJ barely got off the bench for last year's team which played 6 guys and flamed out in the BE tourney and the NCAAs.  That he and CJ have played so much this year, and will see even more time in Sima's absence, is evidence only of how thin this team is.  Would love to see both continue to improve this season and moving forward, but if either is playing serious minutes next year then we've failed in our recruiting and will be hard pressed to make a major move up in the league.

Jessica Albaviciwiz has been a particular whipping boy of mine but to be fair he's halfway through his sophomore year and two thirds of that he was coached by Stave Lavin.  I see in him possibilities as a 3rd or 4th year player. He's better than Don Emanuel was as a sophomore and he turned out to be a pretty good senior.

+1 good comparison. The Donald famous for his up and under moves.
