Silly or not, it is expected. This is a rough season for fans, players and coaches alike, and blow out losses like this make it all the more difficult. Mullin, Slice and Matt are all NY guys who have been highly successful. You don't think this losing is absolutely killing them? Losing in Iowa, Sacramento or even Manhattan college is one thing. Losing here for these guys must be far worse, even though it is not unexpected, and even though they are seemingly trying to keep positive. Ditto for Mitch Richmond, a highly accomplished player.
I'm confident that this horrible season is only going to motivate our staff to ensure that they NEVER feel this way again while coaching for SJU. And that's why I'm confident that this type of season will never, ever occur again while Chris, Slice, Matt & Co. are in charge.
If anything, I think Lavin's success Year 1 set the stage for the lack of care and focus on the recruiting trail the past 2 years. I think he was very comfortable with having a program that could make the tourney every few years, but go through rough cycles continuously, and that the fan base (and administration) would accept that as long as he won 20 or so games enough. This staff won't accept that.
