Mussini does a good job of moving the ball on offense.  He often passes it as soon as he catches it. Although his turnovers have decreased as his ball handling has improved, his primary value to the team is as an outside shooter. Right now, he's an outside shooter who is not hitting his shots.

Yes, he's been worn down by his minutes played, but he's also struggled against higher level BE competition as compared to his performance early on against non-league teams.

If he decides to return next year, he will definitely be helped by playing with better point guards.  He has a very quick release and early in the year showed the ability to hit open shots, even very deep ones. He has to shoot at least 40% from three to be an asset to the team next year, and I expect him to do that.  Think he'll do whatever's necessary this offseason to return as a contributing member of a far better team.

I really think all of this talk of Mussini not being used correctly is just an excuse for his limited game. He's tiny, and he's not able to play the point or the two. He's not a forward, so where does that leave him? If he comes off the bench, he's still tiny, weak and slow. He still has to dribble. He still has to guard his man. What am I missing?

It's weird, No one ever talked about Heath Orvis or Liam Beasty like they do about Mussini. And they're essentially the same players.

This team and season is all about excuses. Your not missing anything.

I'm not worried about Mussini in the least. Firmly believe he'll thrive in next years role. He's worn down and he's in a slump. He's going to have to work hard in the summer and I'm betting he does.

Not weird.  Did Heath or Liam ever score more than 20 points or hit 5 threes in a college basketball game?  Were they ever a catalyst in both of their squads signature wins?

Makes perfect sense to me.

I will give you the Cuse game but is a win over a 2 win BE team now what we are calling a signature win?

It's our only win against a BE opponent.  For THIS team - it's a signature win.

Mussini will be fine next year. He is overmatched playing point guard and has played too many minutes. I think in a spot up shooters role off the bench next year he can be very productive. We have to keep in mind that there are freshman who are playing too many minutes for such young players. Look at Sima, everyone was saying how good he was and lately he has struggled because of his hand but also because he is young and is playing against more polished and stronger players. All 4 freshmen I expect will see a nice improvement next year in their new and more appropriate roles.

It's not a John Hancock signature win.  More like a person suffering from low self esteem signature win.

He's been spotting up and shooting this season quite a bit. He's also missed those shots at an alarming rate. He needs to work on every aspect of his game. Right now this doesn't look like the right level for his ability.

Agree here Poison.  Right now he does not look like a BE player.  But just give him another year to see what he can do.

agree he looks tired, took on more than he should and out of position....  agree he's not a # 1 guy, but he's not D3...

He's got a spot on this team and over the next year it will work itself out as to how many minutes his spot warrants

When everyone was raving about him in the beginning of the year, I thought he was overrated. Now I think his confidence is shot because I don't think he is as bad as he has been playing lately.

I wasn't raving about him. if you went to the early games you could tell that he had trouble athletically . The kid from Fordham wasn't an amazing athlete but completely took him out of the game. Niagra took him out of the game. I boycotted after niagra.
some teams shockingly didn't pressure him. When that happened he did well. If a team played off him he would light them up. No team in the big east will ever play off him.
Heath orvis comparison is unfair. What about Larry wright? He was a board favorite . And hit a buzzer beater vs ND. He couldn't play defense and couldn't get minutes on bad St. John's teams.
He doesn't look tired to me he looks overmatched. He has t played 30 minutes a game at PG in a long time . That argument is nonsense . Saying the kid is a division 3 player is harsh but he isn't a big east guard.

Exactly, if he faced a coach as dumb as Mike Hopkins every 4th day, he'd be Steph Curry. Kid needs to be serious about putting the work in. This was a cold shower. Just the fact that there is a pro league anywhere that would have paid him to play just goes to prove how pathetic some of those overseas leagues really are. Right now, Mussini has a D1 jumper, and a D3 everything else. Plenty of D3 players have one D1 level skill. Avery Patterson ended up in D3. The guy could hit a wide open j. With a hand in his face? Not so much.
