Kyrie Irving, PG, NJ Roadrunners – We’ve seen him on every stop we’ve made this summer and he’s lived up to the billing. Best understood as a scoring point man, he took over in the fourth quarter of a game. We watched him score 10 points down the stretch, including a pair of 3s to finish with 17.

FACES IN THE CROWD : St. John’s Norm Roberts and Rutgers Fred Hill were there for Kyrie Irving.

Vegas Events Top Performers 2010 Class :

Kyrie Irving, SG, New Jersey Roadrunners

Irving is on his way to establishing himself amongst the top guards in his class. Well put-together and athletic, Irving can score points in bunches and in a variety of ways. On top of his scoring prowess, he also has an advanced feel for the game and persona of a winner. His ability to move fluidly between the point and shooting guard positions only adds to his value.

Irving visited the St. John's-UConn game as a guest of St. John's.

"I'm getting to know the coaches and feeling them out, and getting to know all the players," he said.

Other schools that have offered or are involved include Duke, Kansas, Indiana, Villanova, Rutgers, Seton Hall, West Virginia, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Kyrie Irving made his season debut Thursday night for St. Patrick of Elizabeth and a ton of coaches were on hand.

Indiana head coach Tom Crean and assistant Roshown McLeod joined coaches from Seton Hall, Rutgers, Villanova and St. John’s to watch the 6-foot-2 Irving tally 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in his debut.

He had to sit out the state-mandated 30 days before suiting up.

“It felt great,” Irving wrote in a text. “I was a little nervous and had some jitters but I played through it and we came out with the win.”

St. Pat's vs. St. Benedict's tomorrow night at the RAC.

Boyle said he could see Irving staying local at Rutger, Seton Hall or Villanova.

“Kyrie’s got a wide range of interest,” he said. “I think there is the chance that Seton Hall or Rutgers could get him to stay in town. Kyrie has also shown interest in Villanova. There’s a good chance he could stay in the East. He’s just really, really good.

Quartlebaum watched him tonight.
Irving lit up Myck Kabongo, a top 25 2011 recruit and a Texas verbal, courtesy of Ro Russell. It was the worst beating of Dan Hurley's career. The Celtics didn't play their starters for the last 6:36.

If this kid stays local we better get him.
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

Rutgers had their whole staff there and even Rosario & Echenique. SH had their head coach and brought Dermon Player. Sandy Pyonin, his AAU coach, was there as well.

Norm may feel very limited by the scholarship crunch of that enormous sophomore class.

 :o :o :)

“Kyrie Irving, when it’s all said and done, he will arguably be as good as any guard who’s played in New Jersey,” Boyle said. “Any guard. Ever. Ever. DaJuan Wagner, Bobby Hurley. You’re talking about a guy who’s a great shooter, a great finisher, he’s going to be as good as anybody who’s played in New Jersey.”

One Big East assistant said without pausing:  “He’s a pro.”

Ha!  He's got a schollie right now (Mason's, assuming he's back next year), and if a few need to open up to get an actual bonafide point guard who can take over a game, then so be it!

St. Pat's won the Tournament of Champions.
Irving scored 26 in the game and took home MVP honors last night.
