Get UConn back and add a Dayton type. Good to go

This.  Thought there would have to be some type of agreement with UCONN not to screw the conference with the football nonsense.

Dayton would be good. Personally although its unrealistic would have loved to see Notre Dame join us for basketball only but they have that darn ACC contract.  Notre Dame St. John's was a good rivalry and is certainly missed.

Also a West Coast Big East would be interesting with adding St. Mary's and Gonzaga.  If we get enough teams could have 2 subdivisions as we already have a Midwest presence that could play both coasts.

Although attractive, don't see the Big East traveling past Omaha.

Has to be an offer a school (and conference) can't refuse for this to happen. AD's don't take the decision to fly the tennis and field hockey teams 3000 miles for every away game lightly.

Wichita state , Dayton , Gonzaga and Davidson
Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

Zero chance we bring in anyone with a football team.

I personally like the current 10 team league but if we do expand I would look to Boston, DC/Virginia and St. louis markets.

Strategically, the BE is positioned to wait and be opportunistic.  Again, somebody like Wake Forest will potentially be on the block if UNC and Duke go to Big 10 and NC State goes to SEC.  If their rivals are gone and they lose money on football hand over fist, the BE is a great alternative.

The ACC will be fleecing the AAC schools should they lose Duke and UNC.

Dayton and VCU are next up in my opinion barring an out of the box candidate, but Val Ackerman and Stu Jackson are comfortable with the current round robin regular season format. I agree, establishing rivalries through familiarity and repetition is the best way to create a league identity. I'd give it another 3-4 years, let the existing programs continue to build, and then tap into the Lexington/Cincinatti/Richmond/Indianapolis hotbed.

Overexpansion is what killed the old Big East.  Why not stay at 10 basketball only schools? If the teams are good enough, 6 or even 7 might make the tourney in any given year.   It is important that some of our teams make deep runs in this year's tourney.  Do that, and the bids will follow next year.

The home and home format is great -- get too big, go to two divisions, and you lose that.

What are the benefits of expanding?

More teams in the dance which means greater chance at doing well during tourney time.

What are the benefits of expanding?

Market exposure is usually of prime consideration.

Get BC and Notre Dame out of their damn contracts and let them play here for basketball only. BC started sucking once they left Big East.
