I don't mind Big East expansion, but I too think it will eventually be 2 teams at maximum.  Probably not teams we are necessarily talking about now.  The football stuff still is going to shake out a bit, but I think in the aftermath, there may be a school or two that decides that football is just not worth it.  That's what im hoping for.  Until then, I'm happy with the group we have.  We just need to get stronger overall and collectively make a name for ourselves.  We also need Georgetown to become a power again, as much as many here would hate that.

ESPN is completely unwatchable outside of games and 30s for 30s

Yep!  I've been saying "this" for a few years now.

The BE needs SJBB to step it up.

In an ideal world, I would love UConn to become an independent in Football and come back to the conference.

But hey..wishful thinking.

Outside of games, I haven't watched ESPN programming for 3+ years. NBATV, MLB Network, and FS1 during the BE season fills me up. The internet takes care of the rest.

The Michael Sam comment eliminates you from being taken seriously.
Quite the contrary, my friend. A lot, I repeat, a lot of sports fans around the country will tell you that was the moment ESPN "jumped the shark". So, if any entity was eliminated from being taken seriously, it was ESPN. Stick to sports, we can turn the channel if we want socio-political statements in our family rooms. Same goes for Keith Oberman, firing Hank Williams Jr from MNF after making a statement about Obama, etc.

But, thanks for taking the time to read my little blurb

Our problem is ESPN and CBS talking us down or just ignoring us.  In the old days we were hyped by ESPN.  Now they do stuff like Requiem For The Big East.

Idk about you guys but the older I get, the less I think of ESPN. They had the gay Michael Sam-boyfriend kiss during the live telecast of the NFL draft; they don't give credit to other journalists who do break stories; Chris Berman should have retired, or forced into retirement 25 years ago; they don't allow their "journalists" to appear on other networks like WFAN; Keith Olberman; they sensationalize trivial success; etc, etc.

I'm probably old and cranky, but they don't impress me.

Serious question: how interested do you think ESPN in what would make you happy?

Good point Poison, and I'll tell you why.

There was a headline in the Post recently that ESPN, and The Disney Company which is the parent company of ESPN, were concerned about a considerable drop in subscriptions to the ESPN brand. I am just one person, but maybe I do represent a valuable demographic of men under the age of 54yo. A demographic that is a traditional target market of ESPN and its advertisers. If Disney and ESPN want to grow their brand, or at the very least stop the bleeding, they would want to know what my demographic is thinking when we turn the channel and no longer watch the ESPN brand. The only voice I have is this website, a few others like it, and my wallet.

That is why ESPN might be interested in what makes me happy. But, thanks for taking the time to read my take on why ESPN no longer has the cache and muscle it once had.

Also note that ESPN is not included in Verizon FiOS "skinny bundle" of basic channels.

I have Disney stock. It's performance has been hampered by their ownership of ESPN.

I'd definitely call your broker in the morning and dump those shares.  And then send a letter to Disney and tell them why you are boycotting their products, and why you are encouraging others to do the same.

Yes, but only very recently...   ESPN has been a cash cow for Disney for years...

The biggest concern Disney has about ESPN is the huge amounts of money they have paid in rights deals for sports...   with the evolution of streaming programs, those contracts are now not worth as much as ESPN paid for them...-

I understand your point. Disney should be more concerned with growing their brand. Even thought they now own Marvel and Star Wars, they should skew their sports to old people who make up a dying minority online.

And seriously, The Post? The NY F*cking Post. This is where you got your info from?

No offense, but they don't need you because you don't matter to them. You're too old. Harsh, yes. True? Sorry, but without question.

The only problems I have FS1 are that they are not ESPN, their digital site is a piece of shit, they schedule games at ridiculous times and they offer no app to watch games via Apple TV.

Other than that, it's nice that they televise all of our games. Even if no one gives a shit.

I guess this is just me holding a grudge, but I would never give UConn the opportunity to join the Big East.  They were always trying to ditch the old Big East.  I'll never trust that school to do right by us.

Saw a quote from Val Ackerman today saying there is nothing "cooking".  Her schools are very happy with 10, no plans to expand.

Take that with a grain of salt obviously

The only thing right now that would cause expansion to be considered is if Gonzaga wanted to join.  But I don't think they do.  So it would it will be a long time before it is considered again.  They will just continue to survey the situation.

After tonight, we should consider inviting Duke and NC to join. The ACC spent all that money to buy the best league in college basketball. Some folks should sue for their money back.
That said, and now off my chest, North Carolina is really a superb team and competitor and it took remarkable skill and luck and courage and coaching to nip them  in the end..
Villanova just accomplished more than anything done so far to re-establish the BE image and reputation and we should thank them for increasing the value of every franchise in this league.  Not only that , they happen to be  good guys.
The next step is for St. John's and Georgetown to complete their  re-build and the rest will fall in line to cement a new and enduring  history of the significance and quality of the North East game, the Big East, the Garden, and  city kids forever.
I am so proud of what happened in Houston.  Let's go St.John's!!!
