Matt seems to be doing a hell of a job. Not happy w Slice leaving, but maybe it frees up some money and we can get a guy like Dunlap.

Who is going to replace Slice on the staff - maybe Grasso

Are they going to replace him with a recruiter hopefully not Dunlap - we already have ST. Jean on the staff for that

You are assuming that's what Mullin wants.   I would guess that his fellow multimillionaire hall of famer didn't leave his home and come 2,500 miles east to be a special assistant forever.

Heard an Ed Pinckney whisper last week.

After one year...wow.  There has been smoke but I'm definitely surprised by this.

Richmond, like Mullin is a great BB player. But between the 2 of them they are lacking in the coaching experience dept.

Very strange. I guess he and Matt couldn't coexist after all. A definite loss but one we probably can and hopefully will limit the damage of

I don't disagree.  I am just reading the proverbial tea leaves...

It's disappointing if Slice is leaving, but it appears not to have been the best fit for him from the start.  Nobody was going to land a 5 star to play for last year's expansion team, CM seems to have turned in-game coaching over to St. Jean, and the transfer route that we have clearly embraced with signing Simon and Clark is Matt's forte.  What does that leave for Slice to do right now?

It would take a year or two of winning before Slice would be able to do what he does best and land a big fish, and it appears that he doesn't want to wait that long to be productive.  I know that people will attribute this to friction between Slice and Matt, but I think that St. Jean's ascension as in-game coach is probably the more troubling reality for Slice.

You would think that the staff's individual roles would have been made clear before they all signed on and Slice left Kentucky to come work for his friend, but it looks as though simply coming home was not enough to keep Slice happy.

Prediction: the same people who have been complaining that he was not producing on the recruiting trail will now bemoan his leaving most loudly.

You ask a lot of questions.

I'm sure the Coach Mullin will consult with you on any replacement since they know for sure how important your opinion is to them.

How about giving Mike Rice or Kevin Boyle a chance

Why don't you write coach an email with your suggestions?  See what he thinks.

Let's keep in mind Slice was technically 2nd in command on the bench this past season as associate head coach so that's the position that needs to be filled. I'm not sure that Matt or Richmond will get that promotion and highly doubt St. Jean gets it at age 25, so where does Mullin go to fill that spot? Could he possibly look to recently fired D1 head coaches like Brian Gregory or Jim Crews (not necessarily one of these two but somebody of that ilk)? Or does he go with a guy like Pinckney or another recruiting centric assistant?

Since this decision was made and leaked in late March you have to figure their replacement has already been contacted and interviewed.

Props to Moose for taking the heat for the last two months lol.

Wrong place, wrong time for Slice. He's a NYer through and through, wish him nothing but the best moving forward.

With Mullin's connections I'm confident that we'll find the best possible replacement, and I'm excited to see who it is. There were glaring deficiencies on that bench last season, whoever the replacement is should fill those holes.
