Pretty horrible day of basketball overall.  At least Ponds won the NYS Federation Championship.

To FriendofJohnnie, I hear you.  Tough to root for teams you root against most of the year and on the recruiting trail.  I'm able to overcome that because it benefits the conference for our teams to do well, and that indirectly helps SJU with recruiting, TV money, etc.  But hard for me to pull for a Willard or Cooley who, in particular, I don't like rooting for.

Never understood the Cooley hate. Good coach, good recruiter, seems like he's having fun on the sidelines. Not a big fan of Willard, really dislike Wojo.

With conference realignment hitting us so hard, I really see it as an Us vs. Them mentality. I think a few years down the road when we are more firmly established as a tournament caliber team I won't hold so tightly to that, but for now, we need as many Big East wins as possible.

Chubb Rock is in for Providence (#10 Smith).  My favorite player on that team.

I know we are technically supposed to root for Big East for monetary purposes, but I really hate all of our conference rivals and the fan in me wants to see them all go down in flames after the beating they all gave us this year.

I can somewhat understand you on that one.  I don't ever root for Georgetown in the tournament (or, any other time).  Frankly, I didn't give two turds about Seton Hall losing the other night.  Good for Gonzaga, per thumpin' 'em.  I wasn't rooting against or for Providence the other night versus Southern Cal.  Neutral.  But, I was certainly rooting for 'em tonight against UNC.  I hate the Tar Heels.

I'm kinda lukewarm with Villanova.  I like Kris Jenkins' game, though.  If they were to face an ACC team, then I'd been rooting like heck for 'em.  It's easy to pull for Butler (although, they've been eliminated) and Xavier, IMO.  I think 'Nova and Xavier will end up in the Sweet 16, while one of 'em (if not both) find their way to the Elite 8.  It'd be good look for the conference, too.

I think it is in our best interest to root for Big East teams. The better Big East teams do in the tournament, the more likely the NCAA will save that extra spot for us the following season. If the Big East gets 5-6 bids each year but tanks every year, we'll be seeing fewer bids in the future.

As long as Nova and Xavier win at least a couple more games then I'll be pretty happy in the NCAA performance by the big east. So far Butler and providence both won the 50-50 games and Butler gave Virginia a good run. If Seton Hall were able to make a run it would have look even better. Need our two top teams to make a run for the perception of the conference to improve.

It could be a lot worse..we could be the Pac-12. I agree that Nova and Xavier getting to Sweet 16 and possibly further will keep the BE's strong reputation intact.

I think Jay and his kids were sick of hearing about the pressure of not getting out of the 2nd round.

Nova advancing is good for our league.  We have that constant criticism that our New Big East is soft and we need to prove ourselves.  Showing relatively well this year which is good overall.  Need Xavier to do work still though.  Would like to see Big East with 2 teams in Sweet 16.

The new BE has clearly been one of the top four conferences out of 32 nationally the last three years.  But most of the ESPN commentary has said otherwise.  And then there was the 30 for 30 special, Requiem For The Big East.  It may be working for them as our recruiting seems to be way down.  We've had the best recruiting year in the conference so far.  At 17th nationally.  And given where we are we'll need to follow that up with another very good class.

I really want my orange juice chilled. I hope they lose their next game. Glad we beat them this year.

And they weren't last year?
They got a great matchup compared to the very athletic NC State team last year and they are more athletic themselves this year. Good matchup next round too.

Xavier really is a wonderful program. Everyone develops.  What an addition for the Big East.  We really need to get Nova into the Final Four this year.  Sickening that a use has the lick to face MTSU round two.

Syracuse vs Gonzaga in the Sweet 16 is the darkest timeline.

This TAM/UNI game is crazy.  UNI had them dead to rights up 12 with 44 seconds to and blew it.

TAM went on a 14-2 run to tie it including 4 turnovers by UNI.
