BS that they even made the tourney.
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

What I love is Steve Serby column from the NY post how the Cuse was victims of the NCAA.

It was like how dare they get punish like it was okay they do illegal things and they should be rewarded for these needs.

He will be the first one crying if they lose to UNCC saying they didn't get punish like the cuse

Correct me  if I am wrong when SJU punish themselves it wasn't good for the NCAA and when the Cuse did it they said they were to tough on themselves.

The whole point of the suspension was to punish the program.  By weighing the games that Boeheim was not coaching less than the games in which he was (which the committee said they did), they defeated the purpose of the punishment itself.  Great lesson to teach the kids.

Bennet was totally out coached In the second half. As much as I hate jimmy, he did a great job. But it took years for jimmy to get here. He under achieved for years in the 80s.  But again, the NCAA is a joke. Jimmy was suspended 9 games this season means nothing as they are now going to the final 4. And unc is most likely there too!

Nova-please win it all!

You realize that you're saying Boeheim's underachieving is better than anything Lou Carnesecca accomplished here? SU had NBA teams in the 1980s. They were a force.

This might be the weakest field of teams in tournament history.  The 85 St. John's team would beat Cuse by 20 just like UNC will do this week.  A freshman Lydon on Bill Wennington.  Cooney trying to close out on Chris Mullin (with a three point line!).  The Truth crashing the weakside glass against that zone.

I don't give a shit about 1985 anymore.

The committee's job isn't to punish the team. They judged them based on the team that they were at the moment the tournament began. And they were right. Just because we pussed out after getting caught cheating doesn't mean that other programs are going to be as pathetic as St.John's. Don't blame the NCAA. Blame your school's president - who punished St.John's far worse than they ever could.

You're wrong. The NCAA basically accepted our self imposed sanctions, and removed scholarships from SU in addition to punishing to coach.

With the parity in college basketball this year they could have just as easily lost in the first or second round of the NIT. How they fared in the tournament in irrelevant to whether or not they deserved to be in

The committees job is to get the best at large teams into the tournament . Syracuse making it this far proves to me that they were selected correctly .

Monmouth lost at home in NIT, for example.

Wrong. The committees job is to reward the teams with the best resume throughout the course of the regular season. They aren't supposed to put in which teams they feel are subjectively the best. That's why instead of just looking at player talent they look at RPI, strength of schedule, quality wins, bad losses etc.

Whose to say St Mary's or Monmouth wouldn't have made the same run? Again, Syracuse could have just as easily lost in the first or second round of the NIT at which point everybody would have said it was the correct move not putting them in.

And if they were in the NCAA Tournament in Syracuse's spot they could be going to the final 4 right now. You never know and it's irrelevant to whether or not these teams should or should not have been in in the first place

If Georgetown and UCLA had NCAA tournament caliber seasons, Monmouth would have made it in. Their wins over ND and USC weren't that impressive on their own. I would have taken them over Tulsa, but I do think SU was deserving. Their schedule was as challenging as anyone's.

How can it not prove that? You play the game, and you win-it doesn't matter that you were supposed to be the NIT. Clearly, they're a damn good team, and it doesn't matter that they're a damn good team now and they weren't in December or February. If they win two more games, does that make them good enough to be in the tournament? ;)

It's fine if you think they deserved to be in based on their performance from November until selection Sunday. However, their performance in the tournament is completely irrelevant to if they should have been in or not.

Literally nobody thought Tulsa deserved to be in. They happened to lose in the first four but if they went on a little run and got to the sweet 16 or elite 8 that would not have changed the fact they did not deserve to be in

It's the committee's job to consider the team you are at the time the tournament begins. SU lost their last 5-6 games. Had they not done that, I think they would have been a 5-8 seed. But close games to Pitt more than once and UNC at UNC didn't go their way. But even still, they best Uconn, A&M, @Duke at ND. That's a strong resume regardless of the 13 losses.

I loved watching us embarrass them at MSG, but that team isn't the one the committee selected. They selected the team that won in Atlantis, because despite the tough losses late, they were still playing well overall. The committee was right in terms of this being a consistent way to select a team. They weren't given a favorable seed. No one is saying they absolutely deserved it, but I do think the case is stronger for them than it was for the Bonnies, Monmouth or St.Mary's.

I think losing to Iona twice in a row made it clear that Iona was the better team, and there wasn't room for a second place MAAC team this season. Other than us, where are their bad losses? Only Clemson is questionable. The rest are losses to good teams.

Gottlieb strikes again.  What a rocket scientist.  Tweeted something about the Big East shouldn't be able to take credit for Nova in the tournament.  This is the guy that said that gun rights were a chimera because the Bill of Rights were not a part of the constitution.

yea...pretty sure guys like Jenkins and Hart never played in the "Old Big East" and Arch and Ochefu only had 1 year in the "Old Big East"  And in the coming years when Brunson and Spellman are keeping Nova on top I wonder if the "New Big East" still won't get credit.

I dont even get his comment.  Almost wanted to reply...I guess the ACC doesn't get "credit" for Syracuse making the Final Four.
