What an amazing victory for Nova, and for the Big East. Just a few short years ago when the ACC poached away Syracuse, Louisville, Notre Dame, and Pittsburgh, everyone thought that the Big East was finished. But today the Catholic 7 struck back. Villanova, the best our conference had to offer this year, went toe to toe with one of the flagship programs of the conference that tried to destroy us on several occasions. The conference that constantly is circling over MSG like a vulture waiting to take over our turf, and play it's conference tournament there. Well they can officially back off because the Big East is here to stay, and Nova's victory just gave the conference instant credibility and relevance.
Although rivals throughout the years with Nova I really feel a huge sense of pride for them representing the conference so well tonight, and throughout the tournament this year. I'm sure in years past schools in the "bigger" conferences were telling recruits that the Big East was a notch beneath them, and playing at their school would give them better competition than playing here. Having the reigning national champion in the conference should put an end to that. I just hope one day St. John's can pull off the same feat Nova just did. It's obviously going to be very tough, and I know the chances are slim, but Nova winning tonight really shows that you don't have to recruit a team of 5 star players, or play in a quote-on-quote power conference to win a national title. We are light years away of even dreaming of a championship, but it's not impossible as proved by Nova tonight.
