Hours after the school announced that junior guard Malik Stith was leaving the program, St. John’s took the floor at Madison Square Garden for a rematch with Cincinnati.
This time, the Red Storm came up well short, being outrebounded by the Bearcats 46-22 and falling at home, 76-54.
JohnnyJungle.com takes a look at some key points from the loss.
Amir Garrett and Dom Pointer
These two freshmen were the focus of the offense in the first half, scoring 13 of the Red Storm’s 19 points. Garrett is continuing to come into his own in the St. John’s offensive rotation. He finished with seven points.
Gates Exploits Frontcourt Advantage
The Red Storm were outrebounded badly once again. Their size disadvantage was more apparent with Yancy Gates in the lineup for Cincinnati. Gates had 14 points and nine rebounds on the night. The Bearcats outrebounded St. John’s by 10 in the first half.
D’Angelo Harrison
He wasn’t efficient from the field, ending up 4-of-13, but led the Red Storm in scoring with 15 points in 38 minutes.
The team is still falling victim to a low shooting percentage, just 33% against Cincinnati, and it has ground the offense to a halt. Moe Harkless had a down game, going 2-of-8 from the field.
