Biography: Pankey is a New York native who made the jump to the other side of the bridge in New Jersey. Pankey transferred out of Archbishop Molloy (Briarwood, NY) to perennial national power house St. Anthony’s in Jersey City to play under high school legend, Bob Hurley. Pankey still has ties to New York though playing for the New Heights AAU program in Brooklyn under former St. John’s staff member Kimani Young.
Scouting Reports: Pankey is an athletic four-man who runs the floor like a guard. He can score inside the paint with ease and is known for his relentless determination under the boards. His defensive intensity exceeds most of the opponents he faces on the floor. His outside and perimeter game can improve to compliment his inside work. – Ray Anczelowicz Gotham Hoops (Summer 2009)
Pankey possesses the physical build to be a player in the Big East. Can play either the 3 or the 4, but will need to develop more of a perimeter game in order to play the 3 consistently. Ashton is strong, can rebound and is becoming more assertive on the floor. Some questions about his attitude have come up from time to time, however. Also a good defensive player on the blocks. -Theo Rabinowitz (Summer 2009)
