It’s been rumored for a while that Shamorie Ponds is going to make his college decision soon. The latest updates are:
1. He is not taking a visit to Minnesota. (Can you blame him? It’s Minnesota.)
According to Jefferson coach Bud Pollard, four- star guard Shamorie Ponds will not visit Minnesota this weekend. Was dad's decision. #SJUBB

2. He will have a press conference to announce his decision.
Pre-Coffee
Heard a press conference for Shamorie Ponds is likely not just an announcement. #sjubb

Post-Coffee
To be clear on earlier Shamorie Ponds tweet, press conference to commit is expected. #sjubb

It was surprising that Ponds even went on any more visits after St. John’s because I believe he was a heavy St. John’s lean prior to the visit and almost a lock after. However this is a big choice and it’s wise weigh options. With this news it looks like it’s safe to rule out Minnesota which leaves Creighton, Providence, and St. John’s as Ponds final three.
Check back for more analysis and updates on the decision date.

Haha, very funny. Minnesota would rather have Amir Coffey anyway. He’s higher rated than Ponds by most services….and he’d be much higher rated if he wasn’t out with an injury (which he’s fully healed from). He should be announcing this month, and MN is in great shape. Plus this year we have a new 4-star freshman PG (Kevin Dorsey) that we pulled off the east coast….as well as freshman SG Dupree McBrayer, who is a Top-150 guy who we pulled from St. John’s backyard (Queens). You New York people are completely delusional, thinking the whole world revolves around you LOL.

This really isn’t a slight at Minnesota merely just a fact that they are in a distant 4th. I’m not sure how you’re comparing Coffey and Ponds considering they play two different positions. I think it’s commendable if they are able to land Coffey out of their backyard. Often see guys stay local post injury.
Dorsey and Mcbrayer are nice coupes too. Should offer some good scoring punch in the backcourt but Ponds is better player than both of them.

Okay lol. I didn’t mean to be over-sensitive. But what the heck, why not defend my team.
I realize that Ponds is a higher-rated prospect than the guys we have now. But Coffey (who we’re hoping to get) has said he wants to play PG at the next level (NBA). He probably realizes he will have to play SG and maybe even some SF in college….but with Ponds it would have been a crowded backcourt. Providence has promised Ponds 35 minutes per game as a freshman.
I’m just wondering if Ponds is so good that he’d put Dorsey and Nate Mason (who did really well as a freshman last year) on the bench. They’d have 1 and 2 years more experience than Ponds respectively.

Well Coffey announced for Minnesota today. And he said at the press conference that Pitino said he’ll play the 1 and 2 common-guard.
