Russ Smith might not be studying in New York anymore being at South Kent Prep but he is still balling. Yesterday at IS8 Russ Smith dazzled the crowd scoring in a variety of ways. Even though the game was never really in contention, anytime Boys and Girls might have had hope of coming back Russ would go off on a scoring spree.
I got a chance to meet up with Russ after the game to talk about how life at South Kent is as well as an update on his recruiting process. With a smile on his face he said that things are going well at South Kent and everything in the classroom is what he expected it to be.
Obviously the ultimate goal of going to prep school is for the opportunity to achieve a better education, play tougher competition, and gain more exposure. Smith says he’s down to four schools, “Baylor, Louisville, LaSalle, Houston. That’s pretty much my final four” All four schools have offered scholarships according to Smith and fit what he is looking to do. “I want to play the one, I just want to play, and want to be in a position where I can win.”
Speaking of winning, Smith will be playing for the IS8 Championship today and I asked him if he is guaranteeing a win? “Oh I hope so that why I play with the Panthers. I text Gary (Charles) I’ve been trying to get with them for a minute. I’ve been telling him for the longest to put me down, I want a chip.”
When I asked about St. John’s he said they were in contact with him a lot when he was in the city but not so much anymore however he seems them often around South Kent talking to JJ Moore. We wish Smith the best of luck and success in his future.
