Athletic Director Chris Monasch took Steve Lavin out in Tribeca tonight to discuss the possibilities of him coming to St. John’s as the next head coach.
As mentioned earlier today on the site, St. John’s needed to convince Steve Lavin that they were committed to bringing the program back to excellence. As further reported by the NY Post, his concerns included being able to afford a top-notch staff and that the university would address team-travel concerns, summer jobs for players, academic support and other support services.
St. John’s has enough financial flexibility to allow Lavin to bring in not one but a few top notch assistants to his staff which have already included prominent names like Dave Leitao, Barry Rohrssen, Jay Williams, and others. The Red Storm will also have chartered flights for away games which will make the school much more attractive to potential student athletes.
AD Chris Monasch did the job and St. John’s and Lavin are all ready to lock up.
“He wants to be the next coach for St. John’s and be there for a long time.” a source close to Lavin told JohnnyJungle.com
There is a lot of other fine details that need to be ironed out but St. John’s is ready to hold a press conference as early as tomorrow but is expected to be held Wednesday. I know all the St. John’s fans are waiting for the ink to hit the paper but not to worry. There won’t be any snags, complications, or retractions here. Uncork that bottle. Cheers.
