According to multiple sources, 2012 point guard Jevon Thomas of Our Savior (NY) has decommitted from St. John’s.
“We sat and spoke on the early decision and agreed there’s more out there to explore,” Thomas’ advisor Shawn “Wiz” Simms of Team B.A.S.I.C. told JohnnyJungle.com. “St. John’s is still on the top of his list, but he still feels he needs to take some visits and see what the world has to offer.”
The 6’0” rising senior, who committed to play for Steve Lavin and the Red Storm in October 2011, was the only verbal commit for the program from the Class of 2012.
Questions have been raised as to whether this decision could be related to St. John’s interest in 6’9” point forward Kyle Anderson of St. Anthony’s. Lavin is currently in Nevada at the Las Vegas Fab 48, watching Anderson and fellow 2012 target Ricardo Gathers.
With only one true point guard on the roster for the 2011-2012 season, the Red Storm had been anticipating the arrival of the Queens native in the Fall of 2012.
“Jevon still very much wants to be a Johnny, but he wants to make sure he’s making the right decision for him and his family,” said Simms.
