St. John's New Mascot Is…
I know St. John’s has gotten bird crazy with all of their Tweets on Twitter but when I read on the Torch’s blog that St. John’s new mascot was “Thunderbird” as opposed to our old mascot “Thunder” I was pretty upset.
Fans are still upset over the 1994 decision to pull the plug on being called the Redmen, a name which had nothing to do with Native Americans but rather the color of our school (It’s true look it up). I’m curious as to the reaction of the fans as they hear the news of our new mascot which is more popularly known as a classic American car. Are we going to honk horns every time we score or toss anti-lock break pads into the stands instead of T-shirts?
Stay tuned as the student body will now pick a name for this newly anointed mascot which was most likely voted on in jest by a majority of our opponents’ fans or deadspin readers.
JJ Moore Goes Gotham
JJ Moore who has been deemed Mr. “24/7” by Gotham Hoops writer Ray Anczelowicz has been working hard on his game and many coaches are taking notice. Moore has really exploded on the scene this summer since he started playing with the NY Panthers AAU team and got out of the Long Island bubble. From the Bob Gibbons tournament in North Carolina to Las Vegas, Moore is making a name for himself as he’ll be taking his game to South Kent Prep in Connecticut this fall. Below are two videos of Moore courtesy of GothamHoops.com
Canadians Are Hockey Players for a Reason
Like Scott Van Pelt would say on Sportcenter, “He’s tough, he’s a hockey player.” Well these Canadians banged up our boys Justin Burrell (hand fracture) and Quincy Roberts (mild concussion) pretty good. On the bright side is we put up over 90 pts in each of the contests. Here are the Boxscores:
It’s hard to tell from either of these games what we can expect from this St. John’s team but one thing is for sure we have the ability to interchange players at any time to keep fresh running legs on the floor. We’ll see about the match-ups tomorrow and revaluate.
