Shamorie Ponds is making highlight plays nightly like he’s Steph Curry. The latest is him hitting this 3 quarters court shot at the buzzer.
Shamorie Ponds of Thomas Jefferson makes a runner in the lane and draws the foul in the closing seconds of Jefferson’s win over Cardinal Hayes in the Big Apple Challenge on Sunday. The basket tied the score at 74 and Ponds made the free throw, giving Jefferson a 75-74 win and capping a thrilling comeback by Jefferson, which trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half. Ponds led all scorers with 26 points.
Shamorie Ponds scheduled a press conference today at Thomas Jefferson High School to announce his college decision. St. John’s fans had a nervous confidence that Ponds would stay home to play for the Red Storm.
However the St. John’s faithful felt like they’ve seen this story too many times before. From Sylvan Landesberg to Isaiah Briscoe it always seems like the best talent in the metropolitan area has decided to take their talent outside of New York.
Ponds began his press conference and within a New York minute he put on his Red Storm cap and posed for pictures celebrating with his family.

Coach Chris Mullin made it very apparent that keeping New York City talent home was a priority and what better way to back that up then landing a top 50 guard out of Brooklyn. Who’s up next? Rawle Alkins?
Congratulations to my bro @ShamorieP on his commitment to St.Johns lil bro taking over the city this year 💪🏿

It’s been rumored for a while that Shamorie Ponds is going to make his college decision soon. The latest updates are:
1. He is not taking a visit to Minnesota. (Can you blame him? It’s Minnesota.)
According to Jefferson coach Bud Pollard, four- star guard Shamorie Ponds will not visit Minnesota this weekend. Was dad's decision. #SJUBB

2. He will have a press conference to announce his decision.

It was surprising that Ponds even went on any more visits after St. John’s because I believe he was a heavy St. John’s lean prior to the visit and almost a lock after. However this is a big choice and it’s wise weigh options. With this news it looks like it’s safe to rule out Minnesota which leaves Creighton, Providence, and St. John’s as Ponds final three.
