The biggest news this week wasn’t the UNC-Duke matchup, Jim Calhoun and Jim Boheim both having 666 wins facing each other, or Tennesee putting up 100 against Florida but rather Bobby Knight walking away from Texas Tech.
We all know the story its been televised and blogged to death so I don’t need to bore you with that however the question that remains for the general of basketball is what is next?
Bobby Knight already went onto say that he isn’t a gardener and he isn’t going to be one of those folks who well just gets old and boring. Bobby Knight needs the action he thrives and survives on it. What better place for him to be the center of controversy than in New York?
St. John’s has already been linked to searching for another head coach even though they say they’re are committed to Norm Roberts and he is their guy, yea right like we haven’t heard that line before.
St. John’s hired Roberts based on the fact that he is a respectable man who runs a clean program and with no disrespect to him but he doesn’t compare to what a clean program Bobby Knight has and would run. Bobby Knight has graduated 98% of his seniors over the course of almost half a century. I don’t need to sell you on his coaching his 900 wins speak for themselves nor is he like Lenny Wilkens the all time winningest and losing coach at the same time.
St. John’s has fallen out of the spot light so much that people don’t even know where St. John’s is and often say oh in Philly, right? NO thats St. Joes. What better thing to do then hire Bob Knight to put your program back on the national scale and imagine what he could do with NY at his finger tips.
How many people even thought about Texas Tech basketball before Bob Knight got there? Hell even people in Texas didn’t care about it between the Longhorns and the Aggies, Texas Tech was simply an after thought or a complete over sight.
What better situation to step into than a young team he can mold and teach into his style of play? With 8 freshman on the current roster Bob Knight can really focus on coaching while he gets acclimated with the NY recruiting scene.
St. John’s can show him the money!!!! I know St. John’s is sitting on a ton of money its just a matter of whether they are willing to ante up and pay for a big time coach.
St. John’s may have the worst attendance and more importantly the worst student attendance than any Big East team which has caused us to play less games at Madison Square Garden due to the fact we’re just sinking money playing there. Don’t you think people would come out to just see Bobby Knight and his antics on the sideline? To witness history pacing back and forth? I would! He would definitely put butts in the seats to a place that desperately needs it and the Garden might actually sell out again(we know the Knicks aren’t doing it).
So to St. John’s administrators, to Bobby Knight, to Mrs. Knight(you know you don’t want him home 24/7), and to New York.
Come to Queens Coach Knight!
