Fordham Rumors: St. John's Connections

Fordham is a sleeping giant of a program with the right coach and appropriate investment.

We can use Rutgers as an example. After decades of being a doormat, they hired the right coach. Play in power conference, Big 10, that has own cable network and opportunity to play a top 25 team any given night. Nice facilities with a loud RAC crowd. Coach has recruited well and seeing results.

Iona, having been in the NCAAs more than any NY school recently, is already an attractive destination for transfers and JUCOs. Add Rick Pitino.

Fordham. Plays in the A-10, they have a contract with CBSSports cable. A-10 is conference pergatory, not a power conference but more is expected than just a one bid conference. Facilities...safe to say not a recruiting edge. Private school that lacks facilities, benefactors, and opportunity for national media exposure.

The entire culture would have to change, one of those deals where a new AD fires the secretaries, janitors, everybody just to get the loser mentality off his campus.

I agree with this...especially the last point. I do think the A-10 is better than conference purgatory though. It’s top ten for sure.

I love the A10. Always thought of it as a junior big East. Have a good year in that conference and you don’t need to win your tourney to get in ncaa. Far from purgatory IMO.

Wut? Didn’t Lavin have the #3 class in nation? Then he landed Jordan and Obekpa. His recruiting came to a screeching halt last two seasons, but that’s on St.John’s. He looked like a guy about to get fired, because he was.

True, when the A10 is on, their teams have done well. Just saying its not one of the power six, including the BE, thus limited exposure and resources.

Yikes, I just looked. Well, he recruited well at Iona. Maybe he can continue that at Fordham? It would be great to have more locals that can play.
