It will be pure comedy to watch Lance & Anthony Mason Jr. play together next season.

Two balls hogs who feel the absolute need to control the ball at all times in the half court...

We have talk about this before and if Lance signes it will be spoken about until next season begins..

Where does Norm get the minutes to keep people happy..? Who gets screwed..?   who transfers immediately after Lance signs..?

If St. John's signs Lance its going to have a major impact on multiple levels for the program..   and they will not all be good...

Anthony Mason is not a ball hog.  He actually has a low key game, but Norm tells everyone publicly everytime he talks that "Mason has to score."  That's not Mase.

I think those two will play very well together.  In fact, I think the trio of Kennedy-Stephenson-Mason and a big like Evans could be electric on the boards.  If they can work it out with Horne or Roberts on the court, it would be offensive rebound city.

Nobody will benefit more from having Stephenson than Mase.  He'll be able to spot up for three OPEN three's, hit the glass, and catch alley-oops all day.

In theory, with a good coach,I might agree...

But this is St. John's with Norm Roberts...

If the team struggles early next season Mason Jr. will be playing to impress scouts and that is it. He is a 5th year Senior and if you think he is going to defer to any Freshman you are nuts.

Calling the coach into question is certainly fair and my only concern.  I don't think Mase will having problem deferring anything.  He's just a low key dude.

The scouts want to see him as a shutdown defender and an athletic kid that can throw it down on the break and make perimeter shots. Lance LOVES throwing the alley-oop and would be a benefit to Mase's pro ambitions.

He, Mason Jr,  is a 2/3 at any level of professional basketball..   he needs to show that he can put the ball on the floor and effectively create his own shot. . which he can't...

Bruce Bowen never puts the ball on the floor.  I think Mase can develop that type of outside shot and has the physical tools to be a lockdown defender at the next level.

Besides, Mase does have a decent midrange game.  I just can't wait to see Stephenson sign and play so Mase doesn't have to create more than he should.

Marillac I must say I've enjoyed your insight here and agree with you. Who would have thought I would have agreed with you and randomhero in the same thread lol.

We've all said Mason Jr. isn't a great option player but more of a complimentary player and with the emerging and incoming talent on the team it will defer from him having to be the go to guy. He can knock down some open shots, gets some buckets in transistion, and I do think he can be a better defender. It looked like last year his awareness was improving on the defensive end but I wanted to see it against BE competition. I think we'll see a bulkier Mason Jr. next year and I'm looking forward to it.

I've always said this about mase so I def agree. Mase was turned into a "ball hog" by norm who appointed him go to guy when he's much better letting the game come to him. He has good passing and rebounding skills which were under utilized bc he had to create for himself and take long jumpers. If we get lance, it will be the best thing that happened to mase who will be able to showcase his skills.

Before this year, I dont think Norm had many more options to get to the basket so Mase was it. Going forward-that shouldnt be the case. Future is bright!
