Anrio Adams - SG - Kansas Transfer - Seattle, Washington
« on: May 20, 2013, 09:12:45 PM »
From ESPN Insider-

Shortly after the 2013 season ended, Kansas guard Anrio Adams revealed he would not return to Kansas for his sophomore year. Adams' decision was not surprising: a trio of guards headlined by Conner Frankamp will arrive in Lawrence this summer, and potential minutes for Adams, who did not see the floor often his first season, would be slim. Adams briefly publicly flirted with returning to KU (we imagine the coaching staff's reception to this overture was presumably cold) and Adams has since updated a transfer list.

Adams' initial list included Washington, Oregon, and UCLA, but according to Scout's Andrew Payne, Adams will visit San Diego State as well as four other schools. This group could reportedly include St. John's, Boise State, Utah, and Gonzaga. While we don't doubt Adams is interested in those programs, we have to assume one of those schools -- St. John's -- will not be a realistic option for the offensively-explosive guard. The departure of Amir Garrett means SJU is currently at the scholarship limit for next season, and it would make little sense for the Johnnies to add another player (unless another SJU player plans to transfer, but that scenario is far-fetched). The other three could indeed be possibilities for Adams, but we wonder the likelihood of Gonzaga. The Zags are intensely pursuing Josh Perkins and Namon Wright, and while Kevin Pangos and Gary Bell will be seniors when Adams, Wright, or Perkins would take the court, the possible lack of playing time would not be intriguing for a transfer like Adams.

Could make sense if Harrison doesn't work out...

How good is this kid?

Good potential out of HS, but only 3.5 minutes a game as a frosh, with 13 DNP/Coaches Decisions.

Plus, he's likely heading back to the Northwest, as he's stated he intends to file for a "struggling/ailing family" transfer exception.   So look for one of the Washington schools.

There's probably nothing to this.
But kids from Kansas who grew up in Washington State don't list St Johns unless somebody has been in contact with them.

This is at least the second transfer who we've kicked the tires on after Jordan had already signed.   So either somebody else is transferring or the staff isn't afraid to show another player the door if they find a better talent.

Both were recruited for basketball and are currently on athletic scholarships. I don't think you can move their scholarships to make room. Both are great students and would of been able to get academic scholarships if they weren't recruited for basketball.

If a kid really wants to come, but there's no scholly & he has to sit 1 year (transfer rule) anyway- could he go JUCO for 1 year then enroll Sept 2014 & play immed ?

It happens with a kid out of high school. Dwight Hardy got stashed at a juco for 2 years because of grades. But this is someone that's already in college so I don't think you can send them back to Juco. If we are interested then they have to be unsure about someone sticking for next year. Some of the veteran basketball guys on the site may have an idea about how to sidestep the schollie situation. But as I see it, there's nothing available unless someone leaves.

Again, historical Lavin reference - if its a standard transfer (sit out a transfer year), while at UCLA Lavin brought in Penn State transfers Moose Bailey and Jon Crispin, and North Carolina transfer Brian Morrison - all of whom were walk-ons during the transfer year, and went on scholarship the following year when they became eligible.  Times have changed, but Lavin can still sell ice to eskimos, so who knows?  Lack of an immediate ride may not necessarily be an issue.

Ala UConn today;

UConn has juggled its roster to open a spot for a new player for next season, and perhaps retain an old one.

Enosch Wolf, having passed all the university's requirements, is no longer suspended from the team. Wolf, arrested in February following an on-campus altercation with a woman he was dating, was declared eligible to return to the Huskies for his senior season – but will have to compete for a roster spot as a walk-on, a UConn spokesman said.

Meanwhile, CBSSports.com cited. an unnamed source and said guard Lasan Kromah will transfer to UConn from George Washington for his fifth season of eligibility. Kromah would take the program's last scholarship, leaving Wolf without one, so that would be the logical explanation for Wolf's walk-on status.

Man kids make weird decisions these days.   Kromah is an 11 pt 4 reb wing the last 3 years at GW.  That's nice - a solid kid at that level.  But why do you transfer to a UCONN for your last year?  You're likely coming off the bench after 3 years as a starter.    Maybe I'm out of the loop, but isn't a post grad GW degree still more prestigious than a UCONN one?
