Big Win
« on: March 20, 2013, 08:32:07 AM »
I wanted to get this team out of its misery before the NIT, but this group getting a postseason win on the road against a decent 18-win St. Joe's team was really, really big on so many levels.  The NIT is relatively meaningless with the exception of some younger teams like us that can use it as a springboard for the next season(s).

I think it's huge for these kids to win a game without Harrison.  There will be days he's off and there will be games were he is injured or in foul trouble and the team needs to learn to get past that--like a pitcher fighting through a game when he doens't have his best stuff.

I've been on Jones a lot this season, but he looked like a different player last night.  The stats won't show it, but he was moving his feet, muscling up, and hustling.  My only problem with him was his effort, but it looks like he might be getting the message from the staff.  Obekpa also has steadily improved IMO.  We need that kid to be huge next year.

These kids needed this win to head into the offseason knowing they have what it takes to win on the road in the postseason as sophs without Harrison, Sanchez, Gift, and Hooper.  I hope they don't lose badly to UVA with a center, Mike Tobey, from Marillac's hometown of Monroe, NY.  Even if they do, I think there is still a huge net gain from this win.

This team will be completey different next season!

Wouldn't be the same without a Marillac post where he refers to himself in the 3rd person :)

I had my roto baseball draft and we purposely don't have a TV in the draft room becuase draft would take forever otherwise. Unfortunately I kept sneaking upstairs to watch game at the bar. I got skipped about 10 times becuase I picked guys that were already drafted but was worth it. Great ending!

I really hope Jones sticks around ( no reason why he wouldn't, just sayin..).  A full off-season of training with this staff, knowing what they want from him,  could reap huge benefits.  He has some serious upside IMO.  Needs to develop that little jump hook.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Last night was the first post season win for STJ since 99-00? (Removing 2003 NIT from the books)

Agree, a summer of developing post moves and learning rebounding nuances will result in him becoming solid.

When Obekpa figures it out on the offensive end -- whether it happens next year, or starts to happen next year and develops as a junior -- that is going to be fun to watch.  His low post game looks bad right now, but we have seen plenty of guys (Dieng, as an example) who are athletic specimens improve on the offensive end over time (good call on that Moose).

or playing for TCU or in a big rivalry game against Mikinos.
