Doesn't look good, but have to let the season play out. If we don't make it, coach takes a hit, for sure. From the fans and the media specifically.

From the school?  No way. One season of failed expectations isn't enough for me to consider a change at the top.. St. John's is a middle of the road program in a middle of the road conference.   Accept it.

Agreed, especially if we dont have significant transfers.  If all (or most) of the major players remain, which I expect since none will be first round picks this year, next year we are probably a top 25 team, which either gets Lavin the extension he desires, or if he does not desire, allows him to leave on a high note, having taken us to 2 NCAAs to bookend his st. john's tenure.

Still a lot of different ways this season can go.

Not really a lot of ways. More like two. We win 4 games in a row and get a bid and lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Or we win 2 of our next three and lose in the semis of the NIT.
Thx Foadstradamus

What is it you are looking for

Paultzman bro, I know I was right about everything no need for me to get vindication by you all admitting because I know it is true.  Anyone that has argued Branch is a good basketball player or that the ball moves better with him on the floor is just an idiot.

But the main reason I come by here is to see all the cool tweets by Zach and the alumni that you can only find in the jungle thanks to you.  Thanks bud

You are an absolute nice person. There are 20 reasons we lost last night which dont include branch or sanchez and you are trying to hammer it into to everyones mind that they are terrible basketball players. Na it wasnt harrison, it wasnt phil, it wasnt dom or gift. It was those two. Sanchez was the bright spot in the fist half. Branch doesnt get any minutes in the second half until we are down ten points. All of a sudden we are down 4.

You say the ball doesnt move when branch is in. Some real nice binoculars you have for eyes there. There is not a single players sans Rysheed who is a better passer than branch. Really it is not even close.

Lets not sugar coat this one. We stunk up the joint and the fans did too. The attendence was putrid. I was embarassed to be part of that crowd tonight

I've denied it for years, but this season has proven one thing to me.  St. John's really does not have a fan base.

6,739 vs. Creighton
10,340 vs. Georgetown
7,002 vs. Butler
6,707 vs. Xavier

It's embarrassing when you walk into an arena and see only 1/3 of it full.  The school should just move its home games back to Carnesecca Arena.  It has been an irrelevant program for so long that it missed a generation of fans.

The A10 doesn't play well on Broadway.  Ohio, Indiana and Nebraska is far.  Average fan on the street hasn't even heard of these teams and they have no alum in the area.  The new conference teams are Alumni hall appropriate at this point.  On a different note...so is DePaul.

P.S. Those of you that have posted that we're a "better" team than Xavier in this thread,  need to re-read the definition of better.

Same can be said for those that feel we are the best team in the BE.

That's the same solid 6000 or so fans that we've had for 20 years. They just look smaller in the Garden.  And Reynolds and Simaj were the two best players on the floor. And we had no one to guard Stainbrook. I've said it a thousand times before, we need a moose ( small m ) like Teague or Stainbrook .

There is more to it than that ...
Our fans just don't go to games, but they do exist.

My brother works in television research and he said the other day that St. John's games do very impressive ratings compared to similar programming.  He offered two specific examples;
Our games on fox sports regularly beat the college game on Espn or espn2 in the ny market.   Our game that went head to head with Wisconsin-Iowa on ESPN? Twice as many peoples were watching us.
Our second game against Seton Hall did double the rating the Nets game on YES did at the same time.   Our games aren't on the Yankees/Knicks/Rangers level, but he said St johns has been drawing ratings equivalent to a Matt Harvey start on SNY last summer.
That's a lot of loyal fans.   They just don't go to games.
Thanks Desco,,,interesting info...all the more reason, SJ needs to motivate fan base to attend games in person

Desco, not even close.  Maybe your comparisons to Wisconsin and Iowa and the Nets but not a Matt Harvey start last summer.  NY is a baseball city and St John's barely has a following so I bet those numbers you are getting are a bit skewed or you just misunderstood him.

Desco...please tell your brother to cease and desist any efforts to analyze facts...

Thought this game was there for the taking in the first half. Harrison, Jordan, Sampson, Sanchez all on the bench and Xavier went on 8 pt run after St. John's built a 4 point lead. Can't have Branch, Greene, and Pointer out there because none of those want to or can shoot.

If you extend that 4 point lead to anything 6,8,10 then this changes the game.

The mental defensive lapses at the end of the game were unforgivable. Shooting more 3 pointers than FT is a problem.

Basically handed an inferior Xavier team a berth by going 0-2 against them.

Spot on

Fan support in terms of numbers at the Garden would be better if the team results were better and not 8-8 with 2 consecutive losses. Butler, Creighton and Xavier are new teams for the league and Sunday night or Tuesday AT 9PM are not conducive to getting a big crowd..

If the team were battling for Conference CHAMPION status, I'm sure attendance would be better..

Being in the middle of the league standing doesn't excite  most NYERS.. And, when we play badly, as we have many times, we are horrid..Like against Xavier. This team can be UGLY to watch at times and fans don't seem excited by free lance basketball with poor fundamentals.

If we had lit a fuse by beating Nova and then, Xavier, attendance would be  up substantially
