Went to the game. Worst we played in a while.  Plenty of blame to go around. But when your best scorer is held to 4 points, odds are you aren't going to win. Xavier played as well against us as anyone has in the past month. Their bigs killed us, they handled our pressure better than most it seemed, and their D gave us all kinds of fits.

Hopefully we can win the next two and get our scoring back in BET. Of we keep playing like this we won't get a decent seating in the NIT...

God I don't want them in the NIT...Loss hurts no doubt in as much as it probably eliminates them from being able to clinch a bid before the BE Tourney.

But not over yet.

Really  think the games was lost with about 10 minutes to go.  Down 39-38, we give up a 3.  and it seemd after that we just started taking bad shots and gave up easy shots and they went up 8 and that was pretty much it.  We really needed to come out strong the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half and try to get a lead, but to Xaviar's credit they hung tough and eventually got the lead.

Need to win next 2 and make a run in the BE tournament.  I think if we get to the finals win or lose we will get in.  but a lose prior to championship game and we are NIT bound.

I think if they win the next two and two in the BET they get in.  A lot of it will now come down to how Marquette/Georgetown/Providence do down the stretch, they are no longer in control of their own destiny.  Xavier would have to collapse to be seeded behind St. John's after beating them twice.

D'Angelo Harrison's play is inexcusable.

1-11 FG, 091, 4 points today

4-15, .267 15 points v. Villanova

2-7, .286 7 points v. Butler

way to show up down the stretch when you're most needed

Boom.  Not coming out to begin the 2nd half like they did against Butler allowed this game to get way from them.  They needed to bust out early in 2nd half and set the tone with a early lead and have Xavier chase them.

But the season ain't over yet...

Lets not sugar coat this one. We stunk up the joint and the fans did too. The attendence was putrid. I was embarassed to be part of that crowd tonight

POP!

Just got back from the game. Pretty bad game to be at. Thought Harrison would have a good game. as he didn't miss a shot in warm-ups. So much for that.

Barring a miracle in big east tournament, ncaa is a pipe dream. Had everything to play for tonight and whole team laid an egg. Very disappointing

First, what does this team have to do for people to show up? Seriously.

Second, they played terrible. Just the worst. Sanchez had a great first half and was invisible in the second. Obekpa looked bad. Jordan was the only one who played with a pulse. Need to end the season 20-11 and see what happens from there. I can't believe they came out so flat.

The crowd wasn't into it - from the very beginning.  It was surprising.

the team is flat I think they split the last two and win only one big east tourney game

If they finish 6th they'd play Xavier again. I don't think they're a great matchup for them.

Also Stainbrook was getting into it with some students in the front row as the seconds ticked off. Started waving goodbye to them and laughing.

Get to 21 and we have an outside shot with an at large. 22 and we are in.

I don't get the attendance at all. I know gtown is a bigger draw, but I was expecting a crowd like that given that that was a Sunday night game at 9 versus a 7 start on a Tuesday night.

After watching the two Xavier games, I think they match up with us better than anyone in the league. Their guards really have our backcourt trouble and their bigs destroyed us.

I don't know why you are so down on their PG Baldi. He had 9 dimes and hit what I thought was the biggest shot in the game.

I've denied it for years, but this season has proven one thing to me.  St. John's really does not have a fan base.

6,739 vs. Creighton
10,340 vs. Georgetown
7,002 vs. Butler
6,707 vs. Xavier

It's embarrassing when you walk into an arena and see only 1/3 of it full.  The school should just move its home games back to Carnesecca Arena.  It has been an irrelevant program for so long that it missed a generation of fans.

There is more to it than that ...
Our fans just don't go to games, but they do exist.

My brother works in television research and he said the other day that St. John's games do very impressive ratings compared to similar programming.  He offered two specific examples;
Our games on fox sports regularly beat the college game on Espn or espn2 in the ny market.   Our game that went head to head with Wisconsin-Iowa on ESPN? Twice as many peoples were watching us.
Our second game against Seton Hall did double the rating the Nets game on YES did at the same time.   Our games aren't on the Yankees/Knicks/Rangers level, but he said St johns has been drawing ratings equivalent to a Matt Harvey start on SNY last summer.
That's a lot of loyal fans.   They just don't go to games.

If we just got 1000 or even 2000 students for a game it would be a totally different dynamic.

Played afraid for most of the game. Missed a ton a jump shots tonight. 9 points from Harrison and Greene in a game of this magnitude is stunning. I walked out the MSG wondering what on earth is going on? Anyone have any guesses?

I think Lavin screwing with the line up didn't help. Jordan didn't start, and why?

Desco, not even close.  Maybe your comparisons to Wisconsin and Iowa and the Nets but not a Matt Harvey start last summer.  NY is a baseball city and St John's barely has a following so I bet those numbers you are getting are a bit skewed or you just misunderstood him.

I'll take a guess...

Lavin cant coach a lick
This team has bad chemistry and just plays good in small spurts
The great Branch played 20 minutes without an assist.  What a surprise!!!
This team has underachieved all year long thanks to very bad coaching
They have 1 quality win.  1 with a lot of chances only to strike out and miss against every good team they played.
The NIT would be a total joke, complete joke.  Total bust of a season.  The biggest St John's fan on the planet wouldn't pay any attention to it.
