NIT wild card
« on: February 13, 2010, 11:03:44 AM »
before we all anticipate a new coach for next year think about this,  georgetown made the NIT last year with a record of 16-14 (7-11). regardless of record, if SJU slips into the NIT, perhaps he stays

them being a bubble NIT is still a long way off, they have still have to win 4 more games which would be hard to believe.

Well we're now  14-10, 4-8 in conf.

with 6 games left, If we go 3-3 I think we're in NIT.

But what if 2-4 and 1-1 in BE tourn ?
That would make us 17-15, 7-13 in conf ? RPI would be 75-80. good enough for NIT ?

I think we need 3 more wins yet.

I looked a little further into our RPI for NIT consideration.

It shocked me that with the same record as UCONN their RPI is 55 and ours is 81.

But Uconn didnt play 1 team with a current RPI below 200.
We played 4, with 3 of them  (Brown, Bryant, Fordham) below 280 !
I like the slightly better OOC schedule this year, but our low RPI is deserved.

If the NIT has 32 teams, there will be some teams in front of St. John's for a bid - Cincy, Notre Dame, South Florida, U Conn (if they accept a bid - they would probably put actual fans in seats), Seton Hall.  All of those teams will likely end up in the 9-9 to 7-11 range; I don't think St. John's will do better than 6-12 (and I expect 5-13, still).

That's to say the NIT is a LONG shot.

an NIT should NOT save Norm's job.  An NIT...TITLE no less saved Jarvis' job which led to the first firing of a BE coach midseason.  And that's a year we beat Duke and won like 9 of our last 10 games or something absurd.  Norm should be fired.  Hopefully this committee shows that the wheels are in motion already...

I think Cincy, USF, Seton Hall, Uconn and us are all about the same in terms of resume. It really hurt our rpi playing some of the nation's worst teams. Yet another reason to despise Roberts.

There are many reasons to hate the coach. This years schedule is not the problem or his fault. We played Brown in the Philly classic. Fordham's a local team from a decent conference (not our problem they are so bad). There is a reason we played Bryant (cant remember exactly) However it was right before Christmas. Might have been only team available. Hate him for losing to Providence. Hate him for losing to Cornell. Hate him for losing to Rutgers. Schedule not the problem.

Poison - U Conn makes a yearly game of finding the patsiest patsies (though this year they've scheduled some monsters in KY, Duke, TX).  USF's schedule is about the same, and really, go back and look at Seton Hall's again.  They were trying to pad their record with wins (VMI, NJIT, Monmouth as the real bottom-feeders).

Peter you're right about Seton Hall. No doubt about it, but what I said is that our resumes are about the same. They also played Cornell and Temple. They played Va Tech, and we played Duke.

Is there such a difference there?
