Can we bring back some of the old traditions?! PLEASE!
« on: December 12, 2010, 02:36:10 PM »
Lavin has done a great job in bringing in new recruits for next year and creating a new buzz around the program. The one thing that I hope he can tackle is bringing back some of the old traditions. Here is a list of things that I hope he can control or have influence on:

1. Change the name back to Redmen! This is more of a symbolic gesture that I know Lavin has no control over. Many folks can agree that this program has never been the same since the name change.
2. Get rid of the black uniforms! As far as I know we are winless in these uniforms, and last night should prove once and for all that these uniforms are cursed!
3. Get rid of STJ and bring back SJU. I do not understand the initial change of STJ and the combination of the "J" and small "T" on the unifrom. Let's go back to the traditional  "St. John's" on our jersey and SJU intials. STJ is not grammatically correct and our uniform look silly with the combination of the T and J together.
4. Where is Flagboy?! Yes it was silly, but it was our silly tradition!

St. John's has a great tradition, but it seems over the last 20 or so years we keep trying to reinvent ourselves and  we keep falling flat on our face. Obviously what makes good programs are good recruits, but I will argue  that tradition DOES matter and tradition helps build team pride. My examples are the local area teams. The Yankees flaunt their history and love talking about what they mean to baseball. The Jets and Giants and now recently the Rangers all went back to their traditional uniforms.

As always thoughts are welcomed!

 SJU is St. Joe's.  Unfortunately.

I heard the argument about St. Joe's taking it, but why does St. John's of Minnesota still use SJU?

We're going to bring back the most important tradition of all next year: winning.

Huh? This staff has recruited great. But for in game coaching, im not impressed thus far. There are more coaches on the bench than players

Baldi, I wrote huh, because you wrote wasn't English. Not because I disagree. Lavin isn't entirely innocent, but seriously, they can't shoot. What's he supposed to do. This isn't his team. Thank God.

Baldi they did make adjustments. DJ missed key free throws and jumpers at the very end. Stith just stands there and dribbles like Geno did. Only he never makes anything happen. He just looks for his own shot, and it's usually a bad shot. The kid isn't a pg.

No pg, you get bad losses. We've been down this road before.

How about call off the press and play some man to man?

i think with our current team man would be an awesome idea, but i think Lavin is trying to bring in the system he wants to play even if he doesn't have a team that can play it, and frankly plays better street ball then organized, so put them in man, and let them run a more loose offense

Instead of a count down to next game, we should have a count down to the first game.

when will you old folks get it through your heads that this is not the past anymore and the "old" times you all bring up in every god damn thread will not come back.

Times are changing, stop living and or wanting to live in the past.

Ok. Then we close all the forums now and we open them on next October.
