I don't think the defense is so bad. Rebounding poorly out of the zone is probably more of an issue than the actual zone itself. Lately JaKarr has been particularly good rebounding and even Obkepa has improved.
If there is a problem it's executing in the half court offense.
Bingo. You have top make shots against the zone. It loosens up the zone and allows for penetration. What were Harrison and Marco in the first half against Cuse, 0-7 from 3 point line?
UCONN was 8-14 against Syracuse last night on 3's. That's 24 points from the 3 point line and better then 50% from it. You have to make them pay when they pinch and leave open shooters.
When you are facing a really good team on the road you need to make shots. I remember what Calhoun said after the 99 Championship game against Duke. That was a Duke team that lost 2 games all year, DRILLED just about every team they played, went 19-0 in the ACC (16-0 regular season, 3-0 ACC Tourney). Lost only to Cincy in a pre-season Tourney and UCONN in the title game. UCONN and Cincy were the only two teams to shoot better then 50% from the field in a game against Duke all year.
Calhoun simply said he told his guys we can play good defense, we can rebound well but in the end if we are going to beat this team we are going to have to make shots. Because on paper they are probably better so they can shoot 40% and beat us, we can't shoot 40% and beat them.
