Dave the Monday after the Gtown game is a holiday--you can sleep as long as you want--no excuses for ANYONE this Sunday--this is the Hated Hoyas.  The NBA all star game and the Olympics are NOT excuses.

To everyone--if you consider yourselves a St John's fan get yourself to the game.  There will be NO traffic on the road for the "out of towners"  NO EXCUSES--get there

Maybe it's a holiday for you but it's not a holiday for everyone.  I have work Monday.  I actually have to dvr the game because I also have a work event Sunday evening (Not happy about that fact at all)...Even if I didn't...Are you going to pay for my gas? Are you going to pay for tolls?  Are you going to pay for parking?  Are you going to pay for the tickets and food?

Unfortunately, I don't make enough money to go to games.  I go to a couple a year (I went to the Cuse game, and will try to attend another one this season).  Next time there's a game and I don't have to work, I will happily accept the donation from you to get me to the game.  That'll be $15 gas, $13 tolls (I think), $30+ for parking, $40 (for crappy seats) for the ticket, $20 for a footlong and a soda.  Email me to get my address to send me the $120, and I will happily attend ;)

My point is, I can't imagine I'm the only one in this situation.  As much as we would all like to attend every game, some of us simply cannot.  Maybe I took your comment a little too personally, but I don't appreciate having my fandom called out because I'm not as affluent as you, and/or don't have the free time you do.

Logan you are right that it can get costly.  "Can" being the operative word.  For around $40, you can get very good seats via Ticketmaster or from scalpers (and possibly for less than that).  I know because I've sat in them.  On a Sunday night, you can find parking on the streets near the Garden with relative ease.  I've done this as well.  You can eat at home before you leave, or pay $5.50 for 2 slices around the corner before you head in.  My point is that there are ways for it to be more cost effective, even if you include tolls/gas.

No one questions the fandom of those who want to attend but cannot because of work conflicts or money-related issues.  That is totally understandable.  But I think that isn't the issue for a lot of people.

My own view is that a Johnnies game is affordable for NY sports.  I can go to 3 or 4 games for what it costs to attend one meaningless regular season Knicks game, or a Jets game.  And getting to Citi/Yankee stadium, the Garden or Met Life can equally be a hassle depending upon when the game is.

It is costing me about the same after getting season tickets as it was when I went to about five games last year.

Also our season ticket section is terrible, every game in front of me and behind me there have been fans from other teams and last game was incredible it was two guys who knew nothing about college basketball except for the fact that McD could pass Allan Houston and that's why they were there.

Logan a lot of these guys don't even pay for tickets so you should talk to someone like Moose who seems to have some big time connections to the program and see what he can do for you.  The place is a ghost town when you go above the 200's so I don't think they would mind taking care of another big fan to get some more fannies in the house.

I actually have tickets to the game but can't go because I'm working a 24 hour shift on Sunday.  You can bet id love to be there but it's been a rough go of it for me schedule-wise this season.  Not everybody can't go because they don't want to.  I'd love to be there.

http://nypost.com/2014/02/10/st-johns-rewind-obekpa-finally-showing-up-on-offense/

"Where was everybody?: Shame on St. John’s fans. Shame on local college basketball fans. You had the possible National Player of the Year, Creighton’s Doug McDermott, making his Madison Square Garden debut and red-hot "St. John’s playing its best basketball of the season, and only 6,739 people decided to show up.
Those who did get to the Garden were loud, energetic and into the thrilling nail-bitter. Still, when did we get so soft around here? The game tipped off at 7 p.m., and the weather is no excuse. It barely snowed.
Here’s hoping next Sunday’s showdown with Georgetown at the Garden, again set to start at 7 p.m., draws a far better crowd. St. John’s deserves it, the way it is playing these days."

Kinda see both sides. On one hand STJ fans are famous for their fair-weather support. It has defined them over 20 years, but then again, wins put people in the seats. For an NIT team are people going to come into the city on a Sunday night? Clearly not. Maybe if we beat Seton Hall on the road, we'll have a chance to sell some tickets for Georgetown on the 16th.

Sunday at 7 isn't the easiest game to make.

Dave,

No excuse.  Never mind the fair weather Johnny fans, but where are NYC hoops fans?  A top rated player on a highly ranked team comes into MSG to play a hot local team and no one shows up.  It is an embarrassment and another sign that NYC hoops fans don't measure up to their underserved reputation.  These two teams would have drawn a better crowd on a neutral court in middle of nowhere.

Well I disagree. Since every game is on TV it is much easier and financially affordable to watch the game at home. Also anyone who lives outside of the city getting home via train late Sunday night is difficult.

I was in Texas this weekend so obviously I missed the game but if I would have been at the game I wouldn't have gotten home until a little after midnight. Not something most people are willing to do especially when they have to wake up early for work Monday morning.

The crappy Knicks would sell out on a Sunday night.  Where are these people when our local college teams play at the same venue for half the cost?

The Knicks defy logic...They have been mostly unwatchable and embarrassing in over a decade and they still sell out MSG...

Logan exaggerated some costs but does bring up valid points though. I know for myself I use a half a tank of gas + $20 in tolls. No matter how I combo car + train when all said and done it costs me $60 in transportation from NJ.

My couch is free and great view of the game. Sometimes this is much more convenient.

Now nothing beats going to a game but financially I understand people's hesitation to go to every game.

Willing to wager that as a population in general, our posters go to more Johnny games than any group in America outside of the Red White club.

We're not the problem.  It's the outsiders.

That last bit sounds kinda ominous.
