Luis Felipe López,  hands down! Never making an NCAA tournament in 4 years, for the SI cover boy.   His highest scoring average was his Freshman year,  never really developing.  For a guy who was arguably the best player in his class high school class ,  the bar was set so high.

Anyone who played for Mahoney or Norm should be excluded from this because they were not coached at all.

Felipe made it his senior year.

As for that class, a lot of them "busted".  Antoine Walker was easily the best player from that class in the end.

Wasn't Jerrod Ward for Michigan the #2 player competing most with Felipe?  I dont even remember ever hearing about him again.  Ricky Price had one good year and downhill (and is part of the 1 Duke team in forever that didnt make the dance, I believe).  Langdon was good in college but out of the NBA quick.  Wojo was never good enough to be a McDAA anyway but was a Duke thing.  CHRIS HERREN problems are well documented.  Andrae Patterson? Omma Givens?

The best guys from the class ranked based on eventual careers:

Antoine Walker
Raef LaFrentz
Danny Fortson
Lorenzen Wright
Adonal Foyle
FELIPE LOPEZ

That's right I'd say Felipe had a top 6 career from that MCD AA class.  So while Felipe didnt deliver like he was supposed to, it's not like he fell well behind his class either.  Pretty unimpressive class.

Mahoney wasn't a good coach. He was horrible. But some of kids were so selfish, they just ignored good direction, and I witnessed Mahoney giving it to several players. Zendon wasn't able to be coached by Mahoney or Frascilla. At that point, who gets the blame? I put it on the player.

By suggesting Felipe was 6th best in that class based on entirety of his career including NBA?  Who do you have ahead of him? Wojo? Herren? Langdon? Neil Reed? Kareem Reid?

Just because you have an irrational hatred for Felipe Lopez based on expectations given by the media and us, and not by him, doesn't mean you are right in said hatred.  He played hard for us for 4 years and graduated.  He's our 3rd leading scorer of all time.  He's a great ambassador of the game and our school.  What is your problem with him?  That he was overrated?  Get over yourself.

*For the record I have no issues with anyone suggesting Felipe was frustrating - he certainly was.  But I do have issue with the animosity Poison has for him.  It's like Felipe shot his dog or something.  You can be frustrated by someone without despising them.  Learn to distinguish, Poison.

So if a player has multiple coaches, neither of whom reach him, he is uncoachable?  Isn't it just as possible that neither were good coaches?

Fran dropped his pants and grabbed his sack in front of the team.  Maybe some of you old geezers find that old school and reminsicent of the good old days, but yeah would not be a preferred method of a "good" coach if you ask me.

Fran was a great recruiter and OK coach at times.  That's enough to succeed in college as long as you dont do anything stupid.

It's not like Zendon was coached by Louie or Coach K or Brad Stevens or Boeheim (for you Poison) here.  It was Mahoney and Fraschilla.

I will take the hit for Poison,  I Googled it but maybe my disappointment for him block out the 7th vs 10th seed lost Detroit.  Thanks for the facts check fellas.

I have NO issues with Felipe being your most frustrating player Kahnight....none at all.  I was just adding some color that his whole class sucked as an interesting tidbit, and also can't stand that Poison literally hates on him every time his name is brought up.  The guy was frustrating but he wasn't someone that deserves THAT much disgust thrown out him, IMO...

Lopez never got to play with a real point guard and had an awful coach until his Junior year. Tough situation once you factor in all the hype

If Cook stayed. With Hatten and Shaw that would have been a scary 3 headed monster. Cook and Hatten penetrated and Willie camped out in the corner

I believe the only reason we got Hatten was because Cook was all but a lock to enter the draft at that point (late April). I think he even announced the same week.

Forgot about another name - Derek Brown.   Came in hyped up as a top athlete and scorer who could play the 2 and grow into a point, ended up being awful.

Was not highly recruited, had a nice Soph year, got hurt than played out of position. Not sure how he would or should make this list

I was pretty young but Derek Brown was one of my favorite players and I remember not thinking he got enough opportunities or in the right positions.  Memory could be faulty, but I tend to agree with WASJU that he should be far far from this list.  Almost like someone trying to put Larry Wright on this list.

Derek Brown was original Larry Wright I just did not have a forum at the time to trumpet his cause

Derek brown had a big game against my high school when I was in 6th grade. So I tried following him. He did have a big game vs Syracuse I think but that was about it?
