Ponds Evaluation
« on: June 17, 2016, 04:36:43 PM »
Jonathan Givony –  ‏@DraftExpress

DX: USA Basketball U18 Tryout Camp Scouting Reports: PGs
http://dx.im/28Lcsa8  -Quade Green, Cassius Winston, Shamorie Ponds, Matt Coleman

Givony is a very respected evaluator, but does make his comments re Ponds as a PG fwiw. To me he is more of a combo guard.

Similar to Mussini, he should spend as much time focusing on his body as his on-court skills at this point

Look at what Lovett has done to his body and then think what that will do for Ponds' game. If he makes half that progress  he'll be in great shape. But FWIW I never really get worried about a players physical abilities, especially a guard. If you can play you can play.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Agree here.  He's got game and can play but is of frail build.  Needs to spend a ton of time hitting weights.  He's definitely a combo.  He will function alongside Lovett as technically a SG, but I can see us playing a small backcourt like uconn did with shabazz and boatright.  We will be small and quick.

Ponds can dribble. Mussini can't dribble. What do they have in common other than that they're both skinny. They look like completely different players.

I think you're misinterpreting what I'm saying. The only similarity that I am pointing out is that they bothe need to improve physically. 160 pounds at 6'+ is way too light. You're going to get beat up and knocked off your path when driving against stronger guards

This evaluator makes Ponds sound like a freshman.
