Scheppy - please stop with the verbal diarrhea that you are hoisting onto this good board.   Many of us don't have a lot of time to read posts and it is tiresome.   Thank you.

Schleppy,

Don't take things so personally.  We're all fools on here.

Ask Poison, he's Mr NYC... and people constantly try to tell him how wonderful Cincinnati or Manhattan, Kansas are.

Wish this thread didn't get derailed by Sheppy nonsense. Please more on the Tip Off. I heard it was great.

Can't wait for the preseason game in two weeks. We back.

Dear Scheepy,
Calling me a racist, interesting, wonder if my entire black family agrees. I didn't comment on whatever you referred to  because I almost never do unless its BASKETBALL related. How novel on a BASKETBALL site.  Wishing the young men and women of SJU basketball a successful season and all its students a safe and respectful environment....but I'm too old waste my time.....And BTW....tell me I don't care about people of color again and you BEST believe you  will be sorry...another sorry ass coward behind a keyboard

Let's keep this thread on topic. This is about Midnight Madness. No need to dwell on some poor loser's sad lot in life.

After 1 B.E. win last year, I wouldn't say we're back yet. Are we headed in the right direction? No doubt about it.
But we'll be very young this year, and I can't say the 15-17 wins is being back.

We'll all know when we are back. Cause it will look like this:
Top10, 22-24 wins, maybe to the championship game in the B.E tourny, atleast making the 2nd week of the NCAA.

And that is when we are back.
Possibly next year we could see that. I'm gonna enjoy this year and the growing pains.  We'll see some nice upset wins that will have us thinking that yeah maybe we are back, then some bad losses that will bring us back to reality that yep they are still very young.

Also I know very little can be gleaned from the scrimmage, but it looks like we have a pretty complete team this year, with everyone capable of filling a role. That alone should make us more competitive.

Watching it now on FB.

Everyone looks like what they're supposed to be.  Lovett with a slick handle, RF a little raw but can shoot 3s, Bash taking it strong to the hole, Amir looking like a stretch 4 off the bench.

You had me until the last part. If Amar role anything but towel waving guy season will be worse than we hope.

Jarvis brought in Donald Emanuel. He was also a disaster at first, because like Amar, he wasn't a natural athlete and constantly tripped over his own feet, but by his senior year, he was pretty aware of what he was best at and he helped us make the tournament. I'd go as far as to say that without him, we don't make it.

Isn't it possible that with another summer of hard work Amar turns into a much improved player? We actually don't have a senior this year, but he's the most senior player on the team. Again, not saying it's likely. Only that it's possible because it's happened before.

Seen enough of him. Hopefully we have passed the point where guys like him have a role on the court for us.

I liked seeing Yakwe with a semblance of an offensive game. Of course just a scrimmage but it really looked like ppl (Lovett especially) were really looking to get him the ball.

Also we could really have a lot of interesting lineups out there this year, I would really like Yakwe and Sima to be able to be on the floor at the same time.

I would just add consistency will all your points. I would say we're back after a few solid seasons that results in tournaments bids, getting most of the recruits that they want, and that there is an air of confidence among the fan base that the team has the ability to have a great season. Right now I think most of the board is hopeful, but is waiting for something bad to Halle. To the program.

Not expecting too much from Amir, but maybe its just me, but he looked relatively athletic out there.  I remember his frosh year... he was an earthbound big white dude. But now he has some hops and looks like hes been hitting the gym.

I dont expect him to get much playing time in 2017 because..... Marvin Clark. Did you guys notice Clark hit his first 3 and launched another shortly thereafter?  Draymond Green-esque (fingers crossed)?

And the team photo.  As if they took the pic after a lifting session. Bash and Clark look like grown men.
Ellison had that weird neck thing... maybe a bad disc?

My point isn't that he should play regardless because we have no choice. It's that the guy we know could turn into a much better player. If he's the same player he was last year, where every 6 or 7 games he plays well, then no, of course I don't want to see him getting minutes. But let's see how he looks before we assume that we don't need him. He came back for something, hopefully.

Regarding Midnight Madness last week, did anyone make note of the recruits having a good time? Did they listen and watch attentively? Were they on their phones most of the time? Interaction with student body?

I realize it is a much younger group, just wondering if anyone noticed any group of recruits enjoying themselves more than the others. Thanks.

I don't see a ton of playing time for Amar.   There's just way too many guys at his position who are more skilled, or so we've been told.
Bashir and Yakwe are starters or will at least play starters minutes.   Freudenberg is the longterm project with a lot of upside.  Plus Williams.  Who knows what to expect from him.

That said, Amar is one of the few guys last year who hustled and looked like he gave a shit at all times.
Seems like a good kid.  So if he earns the minutes then so be it.  I just don't expect it at this point.
