5 offensive rebounds for Owens. Like what this guy brings to the table

And man, no one saw this one coming

Rebounding wasn't the teams issue,
Off rebounds were 21-10 SJU
Def rebounds were 33-31 SJU.
That's a lot of second chance shots being missed.
FG pct was SJU 36.7 to Minn 43.7 is this that big of a difference? Maybe that explains the 6pt loss?
To's SJU 11 vs 6 for Minnesota
The big difference was assists Minnesota had 18 to SJUs 9. This is a glaring difference between the first two games for SJU. This translates to a lot of one on one, which equals a lot of bad shots. SJU also took a lot of 3's with noisy around the basket which became easy rebounds for Minnesota. They also missed slot of game changing shots have would have cut the lead to two.

This is he third game of the season against a first real opponent from a power conference, as a visiting team, against a coach whose job is on the line. SJU could  have been blown out and they could have one it, instead they loss by 6, like Vegas said they would...

Takeaways
-This is a brand new team all over again that will take time to gel (like many people have said)
-We blew out the teams we should blow out, which is a net positive
-This season is going to be frustrating because there will be games that we could of should
Of one
-The only real experience that is gained is from playing teams within your league than playing bottom rung Div I teams
-THIS ONLY THE 3RD GAME OF THE YEAR!!! Let's see how many things are improved by the end of the season.

RedStorm Nation we have a lot to be proud from Friday night game. We also have a lot to work on to reach our full potential.

Can't argue w most of what he said, except gotta get production fro Sima and Yakwe also. Our lineup will tighten up primarily consisting of Lovett, Ponds, Bashir, Yakwe, Owens and Sima. Need Ellison or Mussini to step up for appropriate depth.

for those of you who disnt think it was that bad .
1. Minnesota sucks.
2. We have no depth.
3. We play too fast and play little defense
4. Their was no game plan to stop Minnesota's best player
5. Imagine how bad the game would look if Lovett and ponds didn't hit crazy shots
6. Bad players shoot to often .
7. No back up PG

Definitely a lot more talent this year than last. The cohesion and chemistry should come as the season progresses. A few takeaways:

-Need more offensive production from the bigs.
-Transition D has got to be better, too many easy hoops and not getting back to setup in the halfcourt.
-Need more ball movement against the better teams. Minny is a bottom tier Big 10 team and there was too much one on one.

Ponds, LoVett, Owens and Ahmed were all big positives yesterday.

Not sure this arrogance and superiority complex is coming from...
-They were favored to win and they won
-We are expected to finish at the bottom of our conference just like them
-According to the announcers, this was Coffey's coming out party. Don't know if SJU was or should have targeting him
-Maybe the coaches did address some of these class in practice and than once the game started the players went back to their bad habits, because that's what their used to and comfortable with

Most people on the board see a lot of potential as well as a lot of flaws. At this point in the season I think it's premature to say the sky is falling

Well if we out rebounded that post play powerhouse  Minn your right were set....my bad.

We lost our poise when they made their first half run and didn't handle the hostile crowd well. Be interesting to see our growth in this area when we play Cuse in the Dome.

Having your PG take 27 shots is clearly not a formula for success going forward.

I think we will learn a great deal from this experience and hope to see evidence of that in the Bahamas over the next 3 games. Although this was a game we could have won, it was still a valuable experience.

We have some players like Sima and Yakwe who are lost out there on defense. Just about everyone is. Let's see where they are as a team in a couple of weeks. This was the first time they have played a team at the high major D1 level. It was a cold shower on the defensive end. Offensively, sure we'd like to see a confident inside presence. Closest thing to that is Owens, and he could still do much better. Here's one thing that he does that no other big does: he goes strong to the basket. Sima has to grow some. Maybe Fran would be interested in joining the staff?

You usually don't want to see that, but the front court has to be more aggressive. LoVett missed open shooters but to his credit, he did a good job getting by his defender and if no one is cutting to the basket because they're out to lunch then I don't blame him for losing faith in them.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, our sophomores need to get their shit together.

Shamorie Ponds is the best back up point guard I've ever seen at St.John's. He can get in the handle, his passes are crisp and on point. And Minnesota doesn't suck. They're 4-0. Could see them finishing .500 in the Big Ten and making the NIT.

I can't believe I feel so good about Owens and still feel down about our front court. Yakwe has been on incredibly disappointing and these guys don't have the hands to take advantage of the dimes from Ponds and Lovett.

Still trying to figure out who has been working with the bigs, if at all

Nobody obviously. We have zero guys that can score if they catch the ball on the block with their back to the basket. Going to be very hard to be a consistent offense throughout the season if all your bigs can do is make easy layups and dunks assuming they catch the ball which seems to be a difficult task for these guys

Apology accepted. Owens is gonna be a good one. Just wait until he gets more comfortable out there he's gonna score more. He's a twig, but he's also quick and he's not afraid of contact.
