Season Outlook
« on: April 23, 2018, 09:49:57 AM »
I hesitate to post this because our luck almost guarantees something horrible will happen. I was livid around this time last year at the prospect of going into the season without adequate guard depth, but I am very pleased with the roster as currently constructed. The gaping hole at guard has been closed with Dixon, Williams, Figuerora to an extent, and hopefully an improved soph version of Trimble. Figuerora was a fantastic addition even if he never becomes a star. He looks very skilled and long/big enough for us to play small with him, Simon, and Clark in the front court for stretches. He seems to complement Simon well and patches up some small holes I was concerned with.

The roster is very balanced, there is no shortage of experience, we finally have some beef, and depth is strong. In other words:  no excuses.

Still one true big short, even if it's just a depth guy that can give us 8-12 mins a game. But other than that I agree, absolutely no reason not to make a big jump next year. Anything short of the NCAA tournament will be a failure and hope to at least play on Friday night of the BET.

What is the expectation for Diakate?  Is he supposed to be a contributor next year?  What position would he play?  Thanks.

Would love to have one more big. If Owens had stayed, I would be confident in saying we could compete for a BE Title.

I'm still excited with the additions of Figueroa, Dixon, Keita, Roberts, Williams, Earlington, and perhaps even Diakite, we are overall a much deeper and more.improved team.

I could see us running 4 guard lineups at times while Keita or Clark need a break.

Expectations should be a tournament appearance. We have a Junior Ponds(Hopefully), and experienced players in Simon and Clark.

I think we could run a 4 guard offense with Clark playing a guard position because he’s a guard. He looks like he’d be a forward, but he avoids contact just like Owens did.

if Clark rebounds like he did at the end of the year we are going to be in fine. Clark's last 12 games  he averaged 6.2 rebounds a game....sign me up for that

Zero guard in Clark’s game.

He was being disparaging but truthfully Clark needs to rebound better. I like Clark but was surprised by how little he rebounded. Needs to get 6 a game.

I'm expecting Walden to leave and a tidal wave to engulf Long Island any day now.

He’s really a 2/3. Not ideal for either position, but he shoots really well, so he’s gonna Play. He’s a good scorer, but he doesn’t do anything that a power forward does. Clark isn’t quick enough to stay with guards, and he avoids physical contact like the plague. Team needs him to want to mix it up inside and if he wanted to, he would be doing it.

How is Dixon's and Williams handle? Believe we need at least one more true ball handler to take the pressure off Ponds.

Dixon’s handle is good.  Definitely can play pg.  Simon in a pinch.  Don’t know about Williams, but he’s a heck of an athlete.

Braziller tweeted that as of right now it’s  60/40 Ponds stays in the draft, but that could  change. Does this count has a bad storm rising or just some dark clouds?
