Shamorie Ponds admitted this will be a big week. A Combine invite will reveal a lot of where he stands. Did say he's "60/40" with edge to staying in draft, but that could obviously change. #sjubb
Zach B

I still think he returns

IDK if he'll return, but that's not a bad answer. He's applying for a job. No sense in saying that you don't expect to get it.

Congrats to Shamorie as he joins some St Johns greats as a winner of the Haggerty--this is why the staff is still recruiting just in case.

Agree. If he doesn’t get a combine invite there is no way he stays IMO. If he does, still think the chances are good because he wants to be a first rounder and he can get there next year (30th on espn or another site I saw) whereas I haven’t seen a board that even safely projects him in the second this year

The chances of him being drafted are not strong at this point.

He doesn't do anything on an NBA level at his point. He has a chance to be one of the better players in the country next year and really increase his draft stock as a potential point guard.

Would be Omar Cook like mistake for him to stay in the draft.

Love shamorie but he shot like 25% from the college 3pt line last year and around 40% overall. If you are a smaller guard whose main role willl be scoring if I’m nba team I need to see much more efficient numbers. He definitely has upside and is a better shooter then those numbers show because he carries such a big scoring load last year but I just don’t see how he gets drafted until really late second round at best. There are just too many similar players with better numbers.

The thing that worries me about Ponds' situation (although I think he'll be back) is with all these changes that are about to go down with NCAA rules/policies he may just want to throw his hat in the ring. He can still get some type of signing bonus in the 2nd round (if he got drafted) and then hone his craft in the D league to start out if he doesn't make an active roster. From a lot of what I've been reading it seems like more guys may go this route in the future and it may become more like a true farm system. Let's hope not for the team's sake and for Ponds too as he can have a special year next year and try to play his way into the 1st round.

I think the change for him to increase his draft stock means he will return.  He can play himself into the first round next year and thus guaranteed money.  If he doesn't, the same opportunities will exist.  Shamorie is a young kid still, so age isn't a factor.

Coming back and having a a more efficient year is most definitely the right call. For some reason, I have a bad feeling about all of this though.....

Ponds #87. Really hope he returns for selfish reasons but also don’t want to see him go undrafted. I think if he doesn’t get a combine invite today that might be a reality check for him.

He did say that he wasn’t staying in the draft to be a second round pick.

Point guard class next year looks weak. He could play himself into top 20 pick if he stays.  This year is much tougher.

Don’t see how Divincenzo is 31. Overhyped a bit.

As of this morning he had not been invited...    this alone should be reason enough for him to pull his name back
